When I first played, I had a simple team. Empoleon, Staraptor, Roserade, Lucario, Raichu, and Rapidash were able to get me through it all, but really I find Empoleon was the only thing needed.

After that I began experimenting with new teams. I've had my Blastoise go at it alone and win easily (I coddle that thing too much), and overall I find the Sinnoh Elite 4 to be the easiest, hands down. ANY Water type with Ice Beam/ Blizzard will do just fine. :]

The one that won me the league was my Flaotzel against Cynthia's stupid Garchomp.

I was using a Togekiss and I got it down to 4 HP, so I switched to my Floatzel expecting her to use a full restore and she did, I used Ice Fang and it went down a quarter I then used it again and it went down to what looked about a 1/3 of it's HP I used it again Garchomp used dragon rush I was left with 9 HP and I won.

Excellent battle!

Traded Empoleon or my starter Infernape.
Empoleon w/ X def survived Garchomp's EQ and counter him w/ Ice Beam.
Infernape beated many pokemons like Togekiss or Spiritomb. It was handy in all quests of the game. :) Lucario helped me too...

I had Hariyama, Alakazam, Golem and Blaziken from my Ruby game. The first two were close to level 100, so it was easy.
The other two, if I recall correctly, were Empoleon and Luxray.

Well, I can only remember a few. They were Dialga, Lucario, and Empoleon.

In Pearl, my DDance Gyrados pretty much swept the whole E4 by itself.
