Teebu: I completely understand how you feel and i have to agree wiuth you.
This is unpopular opinion around here and bulbagarden(it used to be popular opinion before and when i joined, how time have changed eh).
But i also have belief how Misty was replaced from pokemon series too soon.
Thanks to such strategy writers got rid of their best female protagonist imo pokemon ever had(Misty). Character which added lot more humor, drama and genuine, amusing interactions bringing overall more charisma to anime with her quirky persona than her successors, had more interesting story by having to grow up without parents in older sister shadow pursuing water master carer which offered potential to be took in many directions adding for unpredictability.
As well finding myself to enjoy in her battles due to similar hotheaded, fiery passion for competing and becoming besr she can be(like Ash) often containing humor and suspense when Psyduck battled, or her more prominent fighters like Poliwag line and Corsola.
While leaving her story unfinished in many areas. Like her goal of becoming water pokemon master, several unexplored things about Misty story(like family, her fears and insecurities, prejudices formed about certain pokemon judging them by looks whivh could lead to interesting development if she ever met someone like Surskit for example etc).
Not defining her future, what will happen with her own dreams(since she viwes gym as job forcing it on herself to help sisters pout) and in what direction she will go.
If there was any justice in this show Misty should comeback for one more season or two seasons to te up loose ends around character, advance her stiryline and dreams if becoming top water trainer in world, revive on that chemistry wiuth Ash and forming relationshi with new characters playing prominent role in pokemon series again.
Especially now that she is more mature and independent, tougher if those badass moment of hers in chronicles or when using Gyarados counts). While radiating with certain headstrong, outgoing, shy and feisty attitude being hilarious and actually quite deep character capable of exuding lot of different emotions and personality traits.
Or at very least for 10 to 15 episodes(thats very minimum after so much time imo) with new generations of fans deserving to know about original pokemon girl and give loyal older fans chance to see tom boyish mermaid after so many years in action again, getting update and bringing more flavor to pokemon series with her unexpected return and all those fun directions she could be took forward.
Such as possibly becoming E4 member apprentice of Siebld for example. Teaching her secret about water pokemon, go on quest to collect key stone and mega stone mega evolving her pokemon, enter prestigue tournaments organized by him and make big steop forward in fulfilling requirements to become water master and high class water specialist one day herself.
Controversial opinion but I actually like that characters don't stay on the cast forever (except Ash but he's the MC). It prevents characters from getting stale and overused I mean the complaints DP Brock and TRio get are proof that this happens and it gives a chance for newer characters to come in and make their impact, though I do wish the older characters got referenced more, or if we had something like Chronicles every once in a while to keep up with their progress.
Personally i dont pay attention to what other people think about characters like Brock or TR and whether they have gotten stale or not.
But how i feel personally about characters, if changes made to them were positive or negative. Most of all if i still enjoy in them or not. Brock and TR treatment cannot and doesnt equate to how would others be treated and former was hardle fleshed out enough to say how writers overused him.
Im actually perplexed that people in this fandom formed belief how pokemon anime cannot have stable group of main characters developed over long period of time like Naruto, Fairy Tail, One Piece, Inazuma Eleven Go, DRagon ball when it still aired etc did, does?
People want development of characters and pokemon coming of in more believable way, making anime more continuity based filled with stable cast and solid story? They want unique characterization and characters which stand out on their own going through more substantial growth, explore on different facets of characterization, learn new things and develop forward in more complex way experiencing build up on his/her story by doing continuation of what has been established before?
But how to expect seeing this show move forward instead of having messed up plot, inconsistent development and "status quo", when every time opportunity to do build up on already existing friendship Ash established with current companions and already developed story which could be carried over to next region taking things forward gets flushed down the toilet once characters gets replaced with n o one staying long enough in this anime tio come closwe toward accomplishment of their dreams, get over flaws, fears and struggles introduced in their stiruies and plots which writers start about Misty, May, Cilan, Iris, Brock etc but never go anywhere with it?
If anything constant cast replacing instead of fixing mistakes with older ones investing more in them is contra productive to what people would find to be imore ideal writing for this anime.
I think it would be way more fun and fresh to see in future instead of new, older character replacing current one when he/she leaves when situation and next region Ash parts his way to alows containing required locations and storylines to do build up on goals, personality, story plots, relationship with Ash and new people he /she meets going through more challenging and deeper development not dealing with beginners, but somewhat experienced, mature companion which have prerequisites to go on next level.
Misty has been referenced in every single saga of the anime so far so I doubt she's been written out. The writers clearly remember her character. I did wish hr BF cameo was longer but that's in the past now. Something like Chronicles would be great IMO.
Little does reference mean when its been almost 10 years last time we saw any follow up or in flesh return from her character.
Fair toward Misty character, her unfinished story and dreams, legacy left behind herself and her fans? Hardly with Misty being completely abandoned.
Oh, I thought you meant she should have stayed and gotten stale like Brock did. Misty would have turned out to be DP Brock had she remained, since both May and Dawn would have been introduced anyway and Misty would be background fiddle compared to them.
Misty isnt Brock. They are characters with different personality, different dreams, different role, background and hobbies. Even when Misty and Brock were in main cast during Kanto and Johto, Misty always had more battles, had emotional personality deveoopment, made bigger progression toward her dreams and had more episodes dedicated to herself.
She had more focus and overall bigger role in OS than Brock being
deuteragonist.
So please do explain on what account your equalizing this two characters and forecasting Misty would receive same treatment Brock had in DP?
Who btw was treated pretty well in Hoenn as far as im concerned.
We dont even know what would be future of May and Dawn if Misty stayed past Johto. Would they even be included in main cast and in what direction writers would have take Misty after build up they established through Whirl Cup?
-Breaking new grounds with it through future tournaments bringing her closer toward this title(like new water competitions, underwater matches where her adaptability and innovation would be tested showing to have experience in handling such matches against Molly in third movie or Dorian for example),
- potentially receive her own rival adding new dimension to her personality and story through challenge this would impose,
-have her involved with all those new water pokemon and wide array of possibilities to develop character forward through them(like Surskit),
- Meet other water experts such as Wallace, Juan, Marlon or Siebold from E4 with Misty getting over her insecurities and lack of knowledge in how to come closer toward fulfilment of her dreams and where she belongs in water trainer scene ,
-Play role in arcs revolved around water legendary pokemon like Kyogre or Keldeo for example developing closer level of understanding toward water species, their feelings and origins learning hob to unlock full potential of water pokemon on surface,
Etc, etc.
That alone gives enough material to guarantee how Misty wouldnt be background prop as you seem to imply.
None of us really know how would have Hoenn or Sinnoh turned out if Misty stayed and based on current responses.
It also seems no one is willing to give this thought benefit of doubt and how , in what way pokemon series and Misty character herself would benefit if she didnt left?
Being outrageous to even think and explore on what if possibilities?
