Who's to say Diamond and Pearl will stay with the classic Fire, Water & Grass starter types?
However I'm more inclined to think that he'll choose the water type. He's never really had a water starter that's evolved, which the writers seem to love to do now.

I'd like to see him with the Fire starter this time, he needs to build up a strong fire type after Cyndaquil/Torkoal were kinda squandered.

this is wahts going to happen either ash will get them all like the two other generatoin or just one like the last one if he only gets one this is what will happen
Ash - As for ash he has three grass starters so doesnt need another, hes had two water and two fire, but if Misty coming back i think she will finally have a pokemon to train and it will be the water starter so im thinking ash will get a fire starter
May - Already has three starters (combuskin, squirtle and bulbasaur) and there all three types fire water and grass, she doesnt need another
Max - i can see him with pokemon next season and one of the pokemon he gets is a starter (hes the new ASH) and im guessing he will get a grass cause he loved ashs treecho and mays bulbasaur

If he needs a full water starter then just evolve totodile cause if he gets busario then he will have a water he doesnt need two waters on his team in the next season so he cant have a water starter

To be fair, starter Pokemon are only supposed to be given out to kids from that particular region, and finding them out in the wild, especially in their basic forms, is next to impossible.
Except Venusaur, that thing seems to be everywhere....
But, of course, this is the anime, and everything works to a different logic.
I did like Hoenn's idea of Ash only having one of the starters though, instead of catching all three, like Kanto and Johto. Spread them out evenly.
If I had to choose, i'd let Max get his first Pokemon in Shinou. Let him have the grass type. The rest i'm not really bothered about.
