I never watched AG or DP, but I've always been a little interested in DP. I definitely won't be watching 190ish episodes though, so which should I watch? The introduction of Dawn, all eight gym battles and the Pokémon league are a given, but what else?

Thanks in advance.

I think a lot of Paul's battles would be a great start. I may not like him as a character, but he's given us some pretty damn good battles. ^_^ The one at the league being my favorite, but you mentioned the league in your intro, so yep ^^; I also think Team Galactic's episodes would be a good start as well. ^+^

Ah yes, Paul, I should watch a couple on him too.

Also, I like these Pokémon out of the trio's Sinnoh teams: Gliscor, Mamoswine, Togekiss, Cyndaquil/Quilava, Bonsley/Sudowoodo and Happiny/Chansey. So any episodes focusing on them might be fun.

Watch the 8 gyms, the League episodes, and at least each episode where Paul appears. That's pretty much Ash's story right there. There are some character moments with Chimchar in episodes outside of Paul apearances and gym episodes, and sometimes Ash is inspired by a contest battle to try something out and whatnot. Anything with Galactic is also a good reason to watch, and any of the E4 appearances.

I'd just start with DP001, and then skip the episode if the first 5 minutes or so doesn't grab ya.

The trollbias battle, whle it may be known for being the cheapest battle in existence save maybe the paul vs barry or lake acuity it does have all the original music which automatically adds 4-5 points on.

Well I just watched DP001 to DP003, as they seem to form their own little arc. It seems good so far, and Paul seems really interesting.

Looking through Bulbapedia it seems I want to watch these episodes from season 10:
DP001-DP003 - intros to Dawn and Paul
DP018 - Vs Roark
DP035 - Vs Lucian
DP037 - Vs Gardenia
DP040 - Vs Cynthia

You can just watch the DP run on Boomberang if you get it. I think they are at the first gym Towards the second half of it you get a bunch of fillers you can skip if you want

All of Paul's battles, the Riolu specials, and the summer Pokemon Academy arc are a few that you can watch and are enjoyable.

Anything with Paul, the Gyms, Contests if you're interested, and character episodes for the Pokemon would be my suggestion. Or just go to Bulbapedia and check whether each episode interests you.

That's 119 episodes. I know this seems like a lot but trust me they are all relevant. I even cut down on some somewhat important episodes like the summer school arc and some Team Rocket development episodes. People say the Sinnoh Saga is filled with filler and crap, but 119 episodes, 62% of the saga are relevant which even surprised me as I was doing the list. Some of the capture episodes and evolution episodes are kinda boring, so you can skip those if you want.

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
Indeed, DP was known for being long (longer) than Johto was, but it had far less filler overall.

Even if you don't care about the Contest subplot, there are still a lot of episodes that were important.

AshXSerena = Canon
Watch the first 5 episodes, then skip to every gym battle..

Also you must watch the final episode of diamond and pearl and the first episode of battle dimension, it's needed to understand the whole paul and chimchar thing.

I'll also suggest watching the riolu 2 parter and once there were greenfields :)

then after that just watch the grand festival/sinnoh league.

I actually finished watching it last night. I cut it down to around 30. The suggestions are great but watching 100 or more is simply too much; I only wanted to see the abridged saga because there was a 3 day weekend where I am, and I just handed in a big assignment, so I had a lot more free time than usual. One Rival Destinies episode per week is enough for me normally!

I didn't feel like watching Dawn's contests, but I did watch the majority of Paul's episodes.

This is what I watched:

Season 10:
DP001 - Following A Maiden's Voyage!
DP002 - Two Degrees of Separation!
DP003 - When Two Worlds Collide!
(Just realised I forgot to watch DP006 - Different Strokes For Different Blokes!)
DP018 - O're The Rampardos We Watched!
DP035 - An Elite Meet And Greet!
DP037 - The Grass Menagerie!
DP040 - Top-Down Training!

Season 11:
DP068 - A Triple Fighting Chance!
DP081 - Chim-Charred!
DP083 - A Crasher Course In Power!
DP096 - Losing Its Lustrous!
DP097 - Double Team Turnover!
DP099 - A Trainer And Child Reunion!
DP102 - A Shield With A Twist!

Season 12:
DP108 - Dealing With Defensive Types!
DP126 - Sliding Into Seventh!
DP131 - Peddle To The Mettle!
DP132 - Evolving Strategies!
DP151 - The Needs Of Three!
DP152 - The Battle Finale Of Legend!

Season 13:
DP179 - The Eighth Wonder Of The Sinnoh World!
All episodes from DP182 - An Old Family Blend! to DP191 - Memories Are Made Of Bliss

Overall, the Sinnoh Saga was very good. I may go back and fill in some of the gaps at a later date using the suggestions here.
