Nuzlocke, as described by Bulbapedia.

So, who here has taken the Nuzlocke Challenge? How is it? Was it worth it? What rules did you go by?

Post here!

(I'm making this thread because I'm considering accepting the Nuzlocke Challenge at some point, and I'm curious to see people's opinions on it.)

Hell, no. That does not sound fun at all. It also makes Pokemon a lot darker and more depressing. I know you don't have to actually assume that your Pokemon is "dead" when releasing it, but that's how it would feel to me.

I haven't done it.

I haven't done one and don't think I will. I don't like the idea of putting a lot of time into something only to have all my Pokémon to die and have to restart it.

I started one on Emerald, but stopped doing it, got distracted by other stuff. I got as far as Slateport, though skipped the second gym. I was going with some fairly strict rules, notably a "no turning back" rule - if I enter a route, I have to push on to the next city, no scurrying back to the Pokemon Centre - and no buying healing items. I'll probably return to it at some point though.

Nah. That's cool for people who want the strict limits, but I enjoy Pokemon in part because of the freedom. Pokemon is not a game that puts a ton of pressure on you, and that's really nice when your real life is overflowing with it. So I'll stick to playing Pokemon in a way tuned to my own preferences.

Still love doing monotype runs, though. :p

Yes. It's great fun. It even made Sapphire replayable for me which is a plus. If you lose it sucks, but the challenge in avoiding it is where the fun lies.

Never heard of this before but sounds interesting. I'm in process of transfering all my pokemon from diamond to white. Might start diamond over using this

So long
I have not. Do not feel like doing it either, as I do not like restarting and it seems impossible to do it unless you restart. I prefer playing without the restrictions that this challenge involves, I want to set my own restrictions while playing.

I did on my Ruby, and it was interesting using Pokemon I had never used before such as Solrock and Spinda. I never did get around to beating it though. I think I stopped around the 8th gym, not because I was about to lose (I overleveled to the extreme) but because I tend to get bored with the Pokemon games around the 8th gym.

I've seen a Nuzlocke run by NTom64, so I might consider doing it on Fire Red. However, I want to set a rule where you can only catch Poison Pokemon. If the first Pokemon in an area ain't poison, hard cheese.

this entire post applies to me as well, especially the last bit. :) somewhat offtopic, but i plan to do a monotype run for every type in ruby.

i did however try a nuzlocke run. i got bored and deleted it to start an electric monotype.

i think its a waste, none of your pokemon are gonna be ev'd or anything... although i do love my pokemon, and always name the pokemon i use on a team. i dont like using pokemon whos sprites dont appeall to me, i try to use pokemon i like, while still having a balanced team that has pokemon i like
