What majority do you speak for? The majority of older fans, or of the nutjobs? Joey and company WERE around for a long time during the Reign of May, which is my point.
But I don't think Joey regularly watched the show in AG, which was my point. Seeing a girl in still pictures but not actually watching the show is two different things. Obviously if you've seen every episode with Misty but only a handful of May, you're going to think the first girl is more appealing, because you barely saw anything of the second.
Anyway, if I remember correctly, Joey did say he thought May was hot, just that she didn't have Misty's legs. Something like that. He also tried to prove Misty had as big a chest as May by posting comparison pics on our favorite thread on IGN, if I remember correctly. Good times.
At any rate, Hikari owns Misty in the legs department. So if May has boobs locked down and Hikari has legs locked down, where does that leave Misty?
Just not the whole way, but probably if they weren't changing their minds by then, it wasn't happening. I think a significant amount were sticking - hell, the smiley dude eventually became anti-May after liking them both, for whatever bizarre reason. If you claim to speak for them, I'd have to say I don't think many of them started as Misty fans to begin with and suggest that you don't. I support keeping social security, but do I speak for old people? Heck no!
I also imagine it has to do with an unwillingess to admit the attractiveness of a new girl if you already have a favorite. Hikari is pretty cute, but I still think May's the best. Does that mean I'm only sticking with May because she was the one I found most interesting and whoever is your favorite is always hard to top? Could be, I dunno.
It only helps my point that you accuse Bulbagarden of pro-Misty and anti-May bias. BMG, of course, reputedly skews older demographically than these boards.
That's because nearly all the "regulars" there are all fanatical Pokeshippers. It doesn't help matters that the webmaster and most of his mod underlings are also Pokeshippers. The whole forum is bias.
There's a reason why most of them wanted May to leave after AG, and we didn't know about Hikari at the time, and the only reason they wanted her to go was because they were under some delusional fantasy that if May ever left, their precious Misty would return. Notice how that even though May did leave, that Hikari came, and most of them have shut up about their precious Misty?
I think Hikari was the "wake-up call" they needed. All throughout AG they clung to some hope Misty would return, and that never happened. Now that Hikari is here, all hope of Misty coming back has dwindled from "unlikely" to "wishful thinking."
That's really the only reason they didn't get as much as a hard-on for May as they did for Misty, because they were always under some delusion that May was only going to be there for a short time and their darling Misty would come waltzing back to the cast.
Reductio ad absurdum: Why do you think fanartists love drawing May in a bikini? That's about the only time she can compare to Misty.
May fully clothed > Misty fully clothed. It's why Misty gets stripped down a lot, while with May its just more fanservice.

I don't think anybody has been able to figure me out over the years, not even Jo-Jo. Hell, I don't even know myself why I still ramble on like this all the time, but heck, if this isn't entertaining, then I wouldn't be here right now.
