Who here hates edited anime?

I'm the kind of guy who refuses to watch any anime that's edited. I hate it when anime companies literally butcher an anime to get a Y7 FV rating. I think that all anime with violence/blood/guns/death should be rated TV PG or 14 instead of having all of that stuff cut out or edited. Of course that's probably not likely to happen, since dubbing companies can market anime to a wider audience if they butcher it so they can line their pockets with gold. :(

Well it depends on how much they edit it...

I really don't mind violence edits as long as it's justified.

If they go overboard, then I start to dislike them.

Newsflash! Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Naruto, One Piece and various other shonen anime ARE KIDS SHOWS. They were designed intentionally for young boys, hence that being what "shonen" means. They just have older fanbases. There's hardly any anime being dubbed and aired on television that even require that high of an age rating.

I know they were kids' shows in Japan, but I don't think that they should be butchered into something they're not to be shown to American children. I'd rather all anime be restricted to unedited versions on DVD than that.

I depends on the editing. If it's just a few minor edits, I don't mind. If it's anything like what 4Kids did to One Piece, then I would certainly hate the dub.

Personally, I don't mind the editing done to Naruto that much. Blood isn't that important in anime, unless somebody bleeds to death. It's when they change the story to cut out things like a character's death that annoys me, like in Sonic X and One Piece!. I also refuse to watch anime where guns have been edited or had their sound effects replaced; they allowed guns in Johnny Quest in the 60s, they should allow guns in animation now.

Times change, dude. As time progresses, some things can be allowed. Some can't. Why do you think they cut out all of the black faces and gunshots to the head in old Looney Tunes cartoons for these days?

As far as I know, pretty much most anime dubbed now is fine in terms of edits unless it falls into 4Kids' hands.

Yeah, I know. Overprotective parents have ruined kids' animation as we know it. The only good animation these days is on cable.

Clearly we're great!
I just want to see a prime-time network run anime. Then they'd see.

I watch it on Demand, which is totally uncut. That and Showtime. 4Kids TV has destroyed anime. Bandai is a close second on my hate list, but not nearly as bad.

To Ed> I thought Shonen Jump was the main who created those shows...
To Everyone Else> I have 2 words for you: Hammer Gun

But, we Canadians are so lucky! We happen to get Uncut Gundam Seed, 100% Disco Gun free. How do you like us now? Even better, it's still in Toonami time range (10pm)!

To the topic creator: Compared to its manga, almost all anime are edited when they were made... sometimes heavily.

I don't mind edited anime, but if it's edited too much, then I don't like it. It totally messed up One Piece.

Shonen Jump never created the shows. They're licensed (I think) for the shows that are for KIDS.

I don't expect anime to be just like the mangas, but I don't want to see it butchered just so it can be shown on Saturday mornings. The whole reason why I think these kids' animes should be rated TV PG is because you can get away with violence, guns, blood, and death in a TV PG show.

If you have to make numerous edits and changes to get an anime a Y7 FV rating, it probably shouldn't have a Y7 FV rating.....not even if it's a kids' show in Japan.

The only edits I mind are those that completely change the storyline (One Piece) or edits made to "localize" shows for American children. Things like changing the instrumental music, erasing kanji, Americanizing names, and rewriting things to make everything less Japanese is idiotic and insulting.

Yeah, they'd see how much the ratings would suck.

Shoot, even AMERICAN animation has trouble on prime time. Outside of The Simpsons and Family Guy, it's hard to think of ANY cartoon on prime time that doesn't get cancelled after one season. While anime is becoming bigger and bigger as the years go on, it still doesn't have nearly enough power to survive during the ever-fickle prime time hours.
