Why are SOME members bound to a 7-line signature, but not others?

It's come to my attention that, even after the signature rules change, some members are still entitled to signatures longer than seven lines. I can tell this because I've seen their signatures change, both in text content and in the use of recent Diamond/Pearl artwork hosted on services such as Imageshack and *******, which don't permit file alteration.

The granting of these extra sig allowances seems arbitrary. I've seen (recent) large signatures from (non-moderator) members with fewer and more posts than myself, and from members with less than perfect histories at these forums. This seems blatantly unfair and I'd like an explanation. Thank you.

Don't you just hate that? I've seen it too, but I just edit it and move on with my life. Looks like you need to do the same.

The seven-line thing isn't even a rule. Your signature should be around 400 pixels at most.
EDIT: 420, a bit under the maximum banner size.

Yes, it is. Observe:

Edit: *sees 6es in your sig* You've just proven my point that it's arbitrarily applied to some members but not others.

Seriously. What the hell ARE you talking about? There is no 7 line rule.

This:
[snip]

Is the sig limit.
Are you saying I faked the image in my post?

Seems so. Try going under Options on your User CP and down to Miscellaneous Options and change Message Editor Interface to Enhanced Interface. If that doesn't help, I don't know what does.

Every line counts. So let's review your sig.

1) AS Alliance (co-owner) • Shiny Lovers Club • Christian Alliance
2)
3) Banner
4) 4
5) 5
6) 6
7) 7

That's seven lines right there. LugiaRules' sig also follows the seven line limit.

Nobody has gone past the 7 line limit.

And Kinslayer, that image isn't fake. We had a seven line limit placed in a while back to limit the amount of crap people had in their sigs.

Ninjit had a bunch of extra lines in his sig for a short period of time, and it worked. Also, see:

Yay! I've been mentioned by a mod! W00t! This goes in the record books!

But seriously, Metal Mario (or whatever the heck it was), you need to read the 2nd post in this thread. Take that to mind, and stop complaining!

See my above post. It's not the rule, but the seemingly random exclusions to it which I'm complaining about. I'm 100% certain that at least some of the signatures in the profiles I've linked to (not trying to point fingers) have been changed since the rules inception.

Edit: Also, if this rule's going to be in place, it should be written in the "rules" page.

You don't know Ethan much, do you?

I never got why you'd want a bigger sig, anyway. Seems obnoxious.

The members who have got more than 7 lines in their sig and have already changed their sig since the 7 line rule was introduced are most likely people who belong to different usergroups.
Not only the mod group, but also public usergroups.

Seems like the 7 lines limit wasn't set up for every public usergroup.

On a side note, I also think the sig limit should be the same for everyone.
I don't really want any special rights.

1. I was referring to the exclusions to the rule, not the rule, itself.
2. There are lots of technical subtleties in the rule which can force users into having more obnoxious signatures, such as its intolerance of whitespace, which usually makes sigs more readable and less cramped. The way 'lines' are determined is also rather poor. It treats long lines as if they're multiple lines, wrapping as if viewed on a 640x480 monitor, and ignores text size changes.

Why exactly are there different public usergroups which are not only hidden but also theoretically identical in function? The rules for placement in these groups seem completely arbitrary.

Considering how this rule appeared following the forum reset, and its accompaniment with several other debilitating forum glitches, it seems almost as if the 7 line rule was an accident.

Oh, and thanks for taking the time to actually understand my topic, VH. :)

You can join the groups here: http://serebiiforums.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups
The purpose of these groups is to show other members what you are interested in.

When the forums were upgraded to 3.6.0, the sig limits were added.
They are a new function of the forums.

And I think 7 lines aren't really much...
MetalMario, you're just spammin' up the forums with your useless complaints.
And you are spamming up the forums with posts like this...

Oh those. >.> I didn't think they had any tie-in to the permission policies whatsoever. I'll have a look. (It still doesn't make any sense.)

Oh, and the other debilitating glitches I'm referring to are how extended characters can't be typed without showing up as ?????, and how some members can't receive PMs. (they share the same root cause)

Edit: Well, whaddya know? :p
