Why are we arguing over May and Misty?

All I see next to the name Misty on this site is May. people are constantly arguing over how Misty was dead weight. She did 10 times more than Brock. How could you fail to see that Brock was far less important than Misty. Misty shouldn't have been sent back to the gym for good, Brock should. I don't particularly like May but I have to object to the way that such a pointless character like Brock can still be a main trainer.

They tried to remove Brock before, but they were countered by an outburst of complaints so they brought him back. They're obviously not risking it again, but since they wanted to alter the show slightly, they got rid of Misty.

Honestly though, you have to admit Johto drained Misty's character completely.

Both Misty and Brock aren't interesting anymore. When AG ends, hopefully Brock is written off so both Gym leaders are finally taken off the show.

I agree with Yamato-san, the only reason Misty/Brock were on the show in the first place was because Ash needed travel companions. It worked well in Kanto, but since Johto onward it fell flat.

Now that May is an experienced trainer, Ash is even stronger himself, and Max has learned more about Pokemon, it's time to write out the other character.

For the record, the people that actually make these stupid arguments are just disgruntled Misty fans. Most other people never bother to get involved in this, or just don't care.

Brock is there to cook. He provides food. And that's good enough to keep him around until the writers decide Ash is old enough to play with fire.

Brock's and Misty's personalities flat-lined. Misty they could write out of the show easily; they had May lined up to take her place. Brock can't be replaced quite yet, if only for the complaints that arose in the great "Brock/Tracey" debate.

Togepi killed Misty. Brock was just lost.

Seriously, Misty fans just can't get over the fact that she's gone.

I don't know about that. I can recall more episodes that had some sort of relation to Brock and his pokémon breeding skills than I can for Misty and her water pokémon training. A lame ass Whirl Island Cup Tornament? Whoop-de-friggin-doo.

And for the record, I still think it's sad that after almost five years, people still haven't got over it.

They argue for the sake of arguing. Misty wasn't cutting it as a travel companion. She did nothing but go nuts over water Pokemon which got real boring. She's much better as gym leader.

OMG, ok Misty fans should get a clue. Misty joined the group because of her bike remember? 5 years ago she got her bike back, thus completing her reason to why she was on the show in the first place, I mean I know she is friends with the main cast in all but come on when they wrote her out they made her into Tracey. Now Tracey won't come back we know that for sure, he pops up when they are in Pallet, its now the same with Misty. But my point with the bike is that the writers used that as a sign of her leaving and never returning to the main traveling group again, anyone get what I mean?

God 5 years and no one has ever gotten over her, I bet Tracey never even got a second glance or a tear when he left (except maybe by Medea ). Then again Tracey had a hell of alot less time on show :'( But he did complete his dreams, so go Tracey!

EDIT: I hope May doesn't leave ever now, or we will get loads of "OMG May's gone ;__;", "bring back May!, "Now Misty can come back since the other mean girl is gone!" or "why didn't Brock go!?!" threads. D:

People keep arguing about it because people keep bringing it up. The same way that the Kasumi fans argue that she was better than Haruka, the Haruka fans tend to do the same, reversed -- I think that's because alot of Kasumi fans believe Haruka was a replacement...which she was, to some extent. But the thing is, people love to disagree because it seems like no one can come to even ground and settle with the fact that she's gone, and it no longer matters that Kasumi "was better than Haruka" or "did more than Takeshi" or what have you.

[Before I get accused of flaming, I did and do like Kasumi. Thank you. D:]

I find it ironic that the topic creator is asking why we're arguing over it, yet blatantly shows a distaste for May (as evidenced in other posts) and writes "P.S. Misty rulez" at the end. If you're asking why we don't call Brock deadweight, you really need to look around more.

True about the whir islandl thing. She always in kanto for me was more showcased because her and Ash seemed around the same age and there were tons of scenes with Ash and Misty fighting and Brock was just standing there waiting for it to end. Misty also seemed to have more of her episodes. Like the tentacruel/tentacool episode, there was a fishing contest of hers. I think this post sums up why they chose brock to stay over misty.

As well as I guess it would be more character development or to make a bigger impact to show that Pokemon was changing since from the 1st episode Misty was always with Ash.

They worked just fine without Brock in OI. If they had really wanted to they couldve given May the ability to cook or have a new character.

Anyway I like Misty's personality more but May's storyline and purpose is much better. Early Hoenn May was fun but recently her personality has become blandish.

A lot of it is also the shippers too. It's not all of them, but I find a lot of Pokeshippers hate May and a lot of Advanceshippers hate Misty. AGAIN I'M NOT SAYING IT'S ALL OF THEM. But I still think it's extremely petty.
