Ditto can breed with any pokemon of both genders. Maybe its an unbreadable pokemon like the legendaries? Or maybe you just have to wait. BTW, the main site also has some information about egg groups(were you can see the unbreadable pokes): http://www.serebii.net/pokemon_advance/egg-group.shtml

You have to be patient until you get an egg, you dont just get them.
And dont forget that sometimes it takes a very log time.

To be noticed, even that when the day-care man said "They don't seem to like each other", they still can breed. You can't breed when the man said "They prefer to play with other pokemon" or something. However, legendary, yes, cannot breed.

They need to like each other and you have to breed with a pokemon that has a gender

Not entirely true. Ditto can breed with genderless pokemon.

list of pokes that ditto can't breed with: legendaries (bird trio, mewtwo, mew, gerbil trio, ho-oh, lugia, celebi, golem trio, groudon, kyogre, rayquaza, latias, latios, jirachi, deoxys), babies (smoochum, elekid, togepi, tyrogue, wynaut, magby, azurill, cleffa, igglybuff, pichu), unown, ditto, nidorina, and nidoqueen.

THAT'S ALL. ditto + any other pokemon = egg, eventually.

You don't get the egg just after you put the pokes in Day Care, walk around for a while, and then go look at your pokes, if they made an egg, get it, if they didn't continue walking. Baby pokemons and legendaries don't breed. Genderless pokemons suh as Metagross or Magneton can breed, yes they can.

What pokémon are you trying to breed? If you tell us that, we can determine how long it will take to get the egg.

it's not a set time, nor a set amount of steps.

however, if the two pokemon are the same species (two bagons, for example), they will breed faster, as will two pokemon with different OT numbers.

what actually happens is that every 256 steps, the game generates a random number, from 0 to 100. it then compares that number to:

20, if the pokemon are different species, but with the same trainer number
50, if they are the same species and same #s, or different species and the different #s
70, if they're the same species with different trainer numbers

if the random number is higher, they produce an egg.

NO. the main site is wrong, they grouped "genderless - can breed with ditto" with "can't breed"

I think these numbers may be a little mixed

because if you have a pokemon that is same species diff numbers it falls under both your 50 and your 70 classifications

I am also not sure about the 256 thing either

You may not be making it up but I do not see a source so it's not really verifyable

the thing about the certain pokemon is correct though.

go with him on that... not the main site

you're right, i mistyped. go back and check it for correct wording.

and i while i don't recall where i heard the 256 thing, it makes sense because a) almost everything in the pokemon games deals with binary numbers, and 256 is 2^8, and b) i've tested it out myself: make sure he doesn't have an egg, save, take 268 steps (nearest convenient number, as it's the complete round trip from verdanturf to 118 and back on emerald), and if he doesn't have an egg, reset to save and try again. eventually, he'll have one. so the step number is < 268.

Umm, ok, this was answered a while back, and I think they understand now on how to breed with Ditto.
