..My game cable is fine since I could trade from my silver to crystal. What could be the problem?

i dont know how far are you if you havnt gotten to oldale yet i dont think you can trade

It might be you havent progressed far enough in the game, or the link cable is busted, or youre useing a GBC linky instead of a GBA linky.

I don't think that the link matters. It just matters how far you get I think.

NO!!! I AM 100% sure that GBC links and GBA links are different! GBC ones are yellow and grey I think, and GBA ones are purple and gray.

LOL! Sorry, but I just found this amusing. The GBC and GBA link cables are different. The GBA cable is crossed over (ie. one end's inputs are the other end's outputs) but the GBC cable is not. You need a GBA cable.

Yeah, you have to get the GBA Link Cable (They're about $10 at some places.) Using the old ones won't work at all. Upgrade and your trading should work with no problems.

The only games where progress counts for trading are Emerald, and FRLG. Since this is ruby to ruby, he can trade right from th beginning of the game.

i had a problem like that, i traded from GSC and then couldn't use the cable to trade in the RSE games. maybe using it to trade between GBC games doesn't allow you to trade between GBA games after, i dunno though, i just bought a new one.

GBA cables are made differently to GBC cables. Gameboy Colour cables only work with games that are for GBC and before. GBA cables are only for GBA.

I have both and can say that it is true.

If you want to trade between Gameboy Colour games and before then the GameboyColour cable will only work, the other one is the universal link cable which I think is the same thing anyway. GameboyColour cables will not work on a GameboyAdvance.

GameBoyAdvance cables work with GameboyAdvance games only and will not work on the earlier games.

This is because both cables were made differently and be glad the cables don't try to work. There was an article posted when the Gameboy Advance games were being talked about being brought out that if they allowed the attempt of the GBC cable to work on a Gameboy Advance game then data will be deleted. That is why the game blocks you. It is the same visa versa with the Gameboy Advance cable connecting to a Gameboy Colour game.

Nintendo's GBA cables have an extra pin to the GBC cable, that also can add to this incompatibility.

Also I've traded between Ruby and Ruby right at the beginning of both games so how far in the game does not matter with these versions.
