In the past I have been asked by many people why I still like pokemon. Most of my friends went out of it in highschool but now that im almost 18 I stop and wonder... why? why do I still like pokemon?

I think maybe Its because of the games. As a die hard nintendo fan I have played the pokemon games to control my urges to pick up some of the great other turnbased games around. The simple yet complicated gameplay is very addictive and I think thats why.

Yet I still like to watch the TV series, colect the cards and the toys as well.

But then at work one day I was thinking, maybe its because Its a videogame thing. If i saw a zelda video or toy I wpould snap it up quickly and call it memoribillia and not the toys they are.

Its the same with pokemon. I love the game like zelda and if i see the toys or video, I get them and once again claim them to be memoribillia.

What do you guys think? do you like pokemon because of the games or the other connections it has (like omg if you like coffe then you like pokemon because of the pokemon cups around :p )

I simply love the whole concept and idea. I'm a college student now and many of my classmates know I'm a Pokemon fan. :p

Pkmn died here over 4 years ago. Anyone I know IRL who used ta like it now hates it. Basically I remain a fan because tha whole ideea of both the anime and game rocks. <3 I love everything about it -- music, games, storyline, battles... I still live in that world up there in my mind where such stuff happens. I'm 18 years old and I still remember all tha trainer quotes in RBY, Sing Pkmn tunes, fantesize about 'em, calculate STAB and base stats, and I'm even workin' on my own Pkmn game engine. My obsession actually Grew over the years. o.=.O;

And so my obsession continues. Patient's condition isn't expected to change any time soon. <333

Besides, Pkmn are sexy, tch, especially tha Dragons. ^.====.^

I think anyone who likd Pokemon before it became a major fad, or saw it as more than a fad and was genuinely interested in it would pobably still like it now. Mos tpeople just liked Pokemon because they were "OMG Pokemon is teh roxors!!!!!!!!!!!!!11" And when everyone else stopped liking it so did they. But the true Pokemon fans remained just that, Pokemon fans, and carried on liking it. People don't grow out of Pokemon, it has something to suit every age group, they just realise it's not "cool" anymore.
So if you like Pokemon now, it's not because of any other reason except you actually liked it from the start. Anyway, that's my opinion.

I'm 13. If the school of gamgs and thugs + friends knew I'd be a loser. That's why I only show this to the egnored people that no one listens to. I love pokemon! It's ok and the kond of stuff that is for anyone. I collected it at 6. I have 1000= cards! Alot are coppies and I love to collect the oldest cards. I don't battle. I don't like the show. My dad picks on me for that stuff. I only play the games alone or with my best friends.

People think it went out during 1999-2001. Most people think that.

BUT.... I'm not most people!

Easy going game & highly costumizable drawable characters is what I like it about it. There aren't any terribly hard boss monsters that'll smash you up with various spells. >w<

I'm mostly attracted to the franchise because of the Pokemon themselves: there designs, theire backrounds, there anatomy........
I don't play it as avidly as some, but I do plan to have a go at Netbattle sometime soon. If my parents let me download it, ofcourse.

Probably the games helped...I forgot all about Pokemon until I got bored one day two years ago and decided to play my Pokemon Crystal to pass the time.

Look at me now!

I just probably got hooked up into why I liked it in the first place, although I'm not quite sure what that is. Heh, I remember when it was a massive fad and me and my mates realised we would eventually grow out of Pokemon. But not me...

I would rather not...jk.

I dunno why I like Pokemon so much. I guess it is because I like the idea of the games and since they can be so diverse and interesting they just get my attached to them (like a Harry Potter book). IMO the best thing that has ever happened to Pokemon is Netbattle. it is exthremely challenging at times, I enjoy battling spanish, german, french, italian, etc. people and I just love being able to battle all my friends from school every night without having to have a 'gettogether'. We can easily organize tournament and Netbattle is quicker than battling with a link cable or a wireless adapter a lot of the time. I also like it how you can have any team, any level, any moveset, any EVs, any IVs, any gender, any HP type, any ability and you can even choose whether you Pokemon are shiny or not. What more do you want. If only serebii still had his server on Netbattle and if Nintendo had been bothered to make a proper online battling game rather than letting a few people make it up from a load of macros. Oh well...:)

To br fair, I'm not that intersted in Pokemon that much anymore. That's why I'm always around the miscellaneous section and the other games sections. I'd go to another forum but I like serebiiforums, I know my way around it and whatnot. I've also met a few people on the forums so it's easiest just to stay here.

But anywho, I surpose it's because it's highly original and I've been hooked for ages.

I like what it has done for me as a person. It's taught me how to study, for christ sakes! When I study my Pokemon appeals and combos...it's the same way I study my AP Bio cell division crap. Pokemon also made me a better artist. Pokemon opened my mind that you don't have to draw something that's already real - you can make it all up if you please. So now I have more than 100 made up Pokemon...and fanart up to my eyelids. Pokemon has made me a better writer -because I can write about something I know everything about the way I want and I know exactly who's face to shove it into to read it because you're all in one place. XP
I'm 15, and I still like it. Even though almost everyone I know doesn't like it anymore I'm still into it. For the show, I'm more into the human characters now, but I still love Pikachu. I mean, I have a talking plush toy of it I actually play with from time to time. And mimic...but I'm kind of insane so... XP I don't know when I'll get out of it. It's too addicting.

I'm actually quite glad Pokemon is no longer generating the same hype that it used to. In-fact, the reason I didn't get into it in the RBY days was simply because of the fact that it seemed like a stupid fad that would quickely wear out. In Dec of 2000 I finally got into the games with Silver version and haven't looked back. Pokemon is no longer a fad game (thankfully) and has settled down to a point where it is still extremely popular, but not just anyone will play them now.
I'm 19 years old and have watched my friends (IRL and Serebii forums) come and go. I'll always love the game because for me, it will always remind me of simpler, happier days when I didn't have to worry about huge problems such as getting into medical school. It was simply pure, unadultrated fun.

I love the Pokemon Anime. I've loved it for like... the longest time. o_o; I don't think I'll ever stop liking it. XD Well I did for like a few years but then I saw AG and I came back...^^;; I kept telling myself that I was too old to like it but, hey. If there are people that are 20 and still liking it, there's nothing wrong with being 14 and still liking it. Regardless of what people say about it being childish, I still love it, and... yeah. Basically the plot keeps me coming back, and the contests are just awesome, imo. Can't get away from it's awesomeness. o_o; There's my story. XP

Nothing to be done
The bigger question is why it became such a big world phenomenon at all. If you can answer that, then you'll know why you still enjoy it. It had something that every could love. There was the collecting that added another level of addiction to an already thouroughly addicting game. There was the immence satisfaction of training little creatures which, despite the fact that you knew they consisted of zeros and ones, you felt affectionate towards. There was the fantasy of going out on an adventure, and the ability to raise your own team made it feel like your own. Like it was you. And none of that has changed. You should instead be wondering why other people don't like it anymore. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a person now adays hat, when given a Pokemon game to play, wouldn't thouroughly enjoy it.

.. Maybe everyone thinks the TV series are too mushy (which they are) and think the games are like this aswell. How wrong they are
