Why do you play Pokemon?

On a quest to be the best...
It's kinda hard to say. Sure it's fun, but why? I must go back..back..back to the beginning. I started watching the TV show in the late 90's. I got the game because I wanted to have my own adventure. I still enjoy that adventure, so I still play the game.

Why?

Um...when I was...5, I discovered the Pokemon Anime. During Memorial Day, my buddy came over, bringing his DS (this was at age 7) and Pokemon DPPt. I looked at the screen and went, "HEY, THERE'S AN EMPOLEON IN THERE." So a few months later, I got my DS Lite, got PMD, played, was happy. Then I got HGSS. This game I loved. Auto-running...Awesome. It was just...so fun. I play Pokemon for no other reason than "it's fun". It's a way to make the anime realistic...in a pixely way.

I play cus its great and i love it. Its a great franchise has its ups and downs but overall i love it. I also love shiny hunting and all the other little things haters dont see.

I play it because of the adventure. In the beginning, I just wanna pit Pikachu vs Sandshrew due to the cartoon show. It was like, so much possibly. I thought there was only 150 pokemon in existence and only 150. Oh how naive I was. Then came the 2nd generation and the possibility has gotten larger. I was pitting 1st generation against 2nd generation in pokemon stadium. Then the 3rd generation came out. The fourth generation, and 5th generation. I don't think I'll ever stop playing.

I play Pokemon because since I was 4 years old when the first episodes came out, I loved it, now even though I'm 18, Pokemon still strives to deliver one of the best rpg experiences ever XD I also play because it is highly addictive :p

Follow my lead.
I guess I'm playing Pokémon because it was the first video game I've ever played.
And I think it's the first game I've ever played because I liked the anime as little kid.

Perhaps its the fact its the one rpg I can actually play for hours on end and not get sick of it (and also the first video game I played as a kid). Its also probably the fact that pokemon is the one series that seems untainted by the scourge of modernity and that its not dark, depressing, in the cold, cruel, and unforgiving world.

I play pokemon because of the pokemon... There are so many choices to make your team with, and pretty much any team will be able to beat the game. It makes it so much less linear than a standard RPG (even though pokemon's story is always linear), because different people always have trouble with different gyms/elite 4 members, etc.
Also the multiplayer aspect is awesome. It's great to have other people who play the game with you to trade with and brag to.

I like Pokemon because it is fun. I like the idea of living in a world full of these animal that have powers and having them battle to see whose the best.

Lmao I don't too much anymore but when I do it's partly because I'm a fickle bastard stuck in the past, and partly to see if I enjoy it at all better.

I grew up around boys and this is all they played, so when I was 7 I asked Santa Clause for a Pokemon Game and I got Gold. Its the only game I play literally to this day. Why? I don't know really.

I was the first person to like the games in my elementary school, and ever since I started playing Blue version it's just been so natural to me. Granted, the appeal of the gen5 stuff doesn't entice me to play the black or white versions, but I'm still stompin' around on my Soul Silver.

I've always been a really big fan of RPGs (dating back to The Elder Scrolls: Arena, The first few Final Fantasies, Breath of Fire, The Legend of Zelda, Secrets of Mana, ect) so it was a natural fit. Not only is it a really fun and addictive RPG, but it is very custom; by that I mean, you have 649 pokemon from which to make a party of six and, for each of those six, you choose four moves out of their entire movepool for their moveset. It can be played in so many ways. That really appeals to me. Factor in the fact that I was 9-10 years old when Pokemon came out here in The States, and you have someone who is tailor-made for Pokemon. I still play because not only do I still love RPGs, but I will always find a pokemon in the new gens that I like. I also like how they continually upgrade the series. It really makes me wonder how they are going to "up the ante" in the sixth generation.

Plus, it is a good break from all the survival horrors...

I don't know, sometimes the games feel a little boring/repetitive and I wonder why I'm playing it, but it's enough, really. It's often fun, and the boringness is usually from WILD POKEMON ENCOUNTERED RATTATA/LILLIPUP/ZIGZAGOON/POOCHYENA/BIDOOF. That or constant battling which can get kind of dull. But it's a fun series, which I plan on continuing to get games of. (The main series ones anyway.)
