Why does my Pokemon Stadium/N64 do this?

Now I'm not sure whether this is my N64 (6 years old) or my copy of Pokemon Stadium at fault here, but the game is very tempremental at booting up.

Sometimes it won't, other times it will but has crashed a couple of times when loading saved data.

Of course, I've done all the usual things like blowing dust out of the cartridge and N64 and I've checked that all plugs are in securely etc...

I can't see any physical problems with the cartridge - it seems it very good condition.

Could it be my N64 failing me after several good years of service, or is it Pokemon Stadium?

I can't test any other N64 games since I've let my brother borrow them for a few weeks (since I haven't played them in ages).

Anyone had any similar problems, or can offer some help?

Years ago I decided to replay my old Stadium game. I had beaten everything up to round 2. I turned on the game to find all my data was gone. I've never played the game since.

well, it either sounds like the system is old (which probably isn't true, my N64 is about 9-10 years old, and it works perfectly) or the battery is just like, not working.
