Why hasn't Ash caught any new Pokemon in his return to Kanto and his journey through the Battle Frontier? He should've at least caught one.

He's seen a great deal, if not all, of the Pokemon native to Kanto. He probably just isn't that interested in capturing any of them because he knows what they are. Either that or he's content with the team he has right now.

I don't know. I just think it would be more interesting if Ash actually caught something.

I don't think he'll make a new capture until the D/P saga.

What's that? D/P?

D/P=Diamond and Pearl, the fourth generation of pokemon games currently in the works. And he didn't catch anything because his team is satisfactory with its current members

I think he'll try capturing a new Pokemon once they're in the D/P Region, since the Battle Frontier is in Kanto, and he's already familiar with the Kanto Pokemon, so he probably wasn't interested in catching them, since he is a native of Kanto and could probably catch the said Pokemon anytime he wishes to do so.

But I remember something that had to do with a Sudowoodo, though...

I think he should at least catch a D/P pokemon since Brock and May did

they're not having Ash capture anymore pokemon because they're more focused on developing already-existing characters.

One of the biggest, but often overlooked problems of the past seasons was that they would have Ash or another main character capture a pokemon, but it doesn't get a single shread of character development at all during it's time with the group. It ends up being dead weight and the capture ends up being completely pointless. It then gets unceremoniously dumped in favour of a more popular character.

Once the Frontier saga ends and they finally move to DP, then they'll have Ash's current roster "retire" to Oaks in favour of showcasing DP pokemon with different capabilites.
