Why is this such a big fricking hairy deal to pokemon anime fans when it isn't to James Bond fans, or Simpsons fans, or any other frachised character that doesn't age?
Because Pokemon has a story that has spanned over 600 episodes, which episode basically leading into another and with our becoming progressively further into their journey and more experienced with Pokemon. James Bond has 22 movies. The Simpsons has no story.
So, why, then, is Ash 12? It doesn't make any sense, I know. Each episode takes at least one day, if not more (well, the first two episodes were just one day total, I believe...). So, with this being so, the suitable age would be 12. I know the third movie said it had been one year since Ash got Pikachu, making him another year older, but I assumed that the writers forgot about that. With all we have tolerated for over a decade, can't be at least make the progressing character more experienced and knowledgeable? 12 is still a kid's age that would appeal to all kids.
All I wanted from this show was to have a character that developed. That's why I love the entire Original Series: Each series leads into the another, while still referencing past experiences and using older Pokemon. But, no. After being disgusted and disappointed for about 400 episodes now, the writers couldn't throw the old fans a bone.
No one loves Kanto-Orange Islands-Johto more than me. But apparently it is all gone now. What are the chances we will ever see Misty again? An actually humorous Team Rocket? Kingler, Tauros, or Muk? Pidgeot or Butterfree (or, dare I say, Primeape)? Totodile or Bayleef?
I'm not positive, but as of right now, the chances are pretty low.
