I know, I know, before you start spamming with hate comments I just want to point this out: 4 leagues (not counting orange islands), and one battle frontier in less than a year, are you kidding me? Not mentioning that in the Pikachu clip before the 3rd movie Ash mentions that it's the anniversary of when he and Pikachu met for the first time....wow. I really don't mind Ash losing all his skills in BW because he will eventually get them back but I don't really like the fact that time doesn't seem to pass in all these 15 years.....what do you think about this? please leave your opinion, and ntw this is my first post n.n

because pokemon's main audience attraction is between 6 - 12 and 10 is a suitable age for a trainer and pokemon would completely fail if ash was 25 and still loosing leagues to 10 year olds kay?

I know that, but well he could at least be you know....12 :p, seriously there's nothing wrong with ash being a kid, it would be weird if he was 25, but as I sayed I don't like the fact that time seems to not be passing

Because he's fictional. He doesn't age. If this bothers you, I suggest you never go anywhere near The Simpsons or any other piece of fiction starring an ageless character or characters.

yes but wouldn't that be stupid if ash only aged 2 years'' when the show has been going on for over 14 years'' just trust me the only way ash will age if there was a time skip and i dont see that happening untill ash ends his journey which will be a long time from now

Simple answer:

The Pokemon anime has and always will be a half hour advertisement for the associated Pokemon video games that are being sold typically before the release of the anime.

Elaboration:

Because of this simple fact, keeping the main character (and "mascot") the same age allows the writers to easily introduce new players/fans/viewers to the franchise without having to change the tone of the anime to suit viewers of previous generations who may or may not still be interested in the shows.

Despite the proper "continuity" issues this might cause, one must also realize that Pokemon is one of the very few shows of it's kind. Most of them have either finished, or the games of them haven't been shown as much.

If you think about from that particular view, things make a bit more sense, and you don't have to think about it as hard.

Well the new anime episodes are usually a week apart, so if every episode =1 day, then time would be passing slower than it seems.

heres how it works in the pokemon world. every new generation ash looses all of his good pokemon, his pikachu get set to level 1, he gets a brand new girl to accompany him (now hes starting to replace the guys too), he looses all battling skills

Why is this such a big fricking hairy deal to pokemon anime fans when it isn't to James Bond fans, or Simpsons fans, or any other frachised character that doesn't age?

If Ash were to age according to the show's length (it was often implied that days or even weeks had passed between episodes), he'd be around 25 now, he'd probably have a girl friend and would be considering starting a family of his own. Not exactly something most 10 year old kids would be able to relate to.

I'm gussing the primary reason Ash hasn't aged even a year or two is because the writers just don't want to handle things such as Puberty (i.e interest in girls, mood swings, etc), since 12 and up is the average time Puberty begins in males. There's also the fact that the show pretty much resets his character at the beginning of every new series, it would be a lot harder to explain why Ash is visibly older, yet has trouble defeating the first gym leader in a region (think about it, if Ash, who has won dozens of gym battles, battled and won against legendaries, who is apparently the "Chosen One", had trouble beating Falkner, the first Johto Gym Leader, how is some scrawny beginner trainer supposed to beat him(Falkner)?!).

Pokemon- Compared to the adults Ash wins against all the time? I don't think age really matters when it comes to battling, I mean everyone's gotta lose no matter who they are.

Anyways why is Pokemon the only thing I have ever heard someone ask why they never age? The Simpson and others are exactly the same as well. And the Simpson isn't exactly targeted to a young audience either.

Shortest Answer Ever: Because the writers said so.

True. It's best suited for that age. I just have one question.... How old is Brock?!

Like everyone said, he doesn't age.
Personally I have no problem with this. If he becomes a pokemon master one day the age won't bother us anymore.

Dialga's the main villain of the Pokemon franchise. He has created an unstable time loop for unspecified reasons. We'll find out why in Movie 63, after Pokemon Radiant Shining Diamond of Love comes out for the Nintendo 9DSiXL64AdvanceSP.

Why is this such a big fricking hairy deal to pokemon anime fans when it isn't to James Bond fans, or Simpsons fans, or any other frachised character that doesn't age?

Because Pokemon has a story that has spanned over 600 episodes, which episode basically leading into another and with our becoming progressively further into their journey and more experienced with Pokemon. James Bond has 22 movies. The Simpsons has no story.

So, why, then, is Ash 12? It doesn't make any sense, I know. Each episode takes at least one day, if not more (well, the first two episodes were just one day total, I believe...). So, with this being so, the suitable age would be 12. I know the third movie said it had been one year since Ash got Pikachu, making him another year older, but I assumed that the writers forgot about that. With all we have tolerated for over a decade, can't be at least make the progressing character more experienced and knowledgeable? 12 is still a kid's age that would appeal to all kids.

All I wanted from this show was to have a character that developed. That's why I love the entire Original Series: Each series leads into the another, while still referencing past experiences and using older Pokemon. But, no. After being disgusted and disappointed for about 400 episodes now, the writers couldn't throw the old fans a bone.

No one loves Kanto-Orange Islands-Johto more than me. But apparently it is all gone now. What are the chances we will ever see Misty again? An actually humorous Team Rocket? Kingler, Tauros, or Muk? Pidgeot or Butterfree (or, dare I say, Primeape)? Totodile or Bayleef?

I'm not positive, but as of right now, the chances are pretty low.
