Has anyone noticed the trio has 1 person who hates them? AshXTrip IrisXLangley and CilanXThePurpleHairedGirl. Is this the first time where all the mains have had someone who hates them? I like it since it seems to brining out things in the trio.

I don't think Trips hates Ash, he just doesn't like him.

Sorry for my English
Trip does not hate Ash, just treats him with indifference.
The writers not know very well what to do with Burgundy and Georgia, so follow the easy way by feeding hatred meaningless.
The objectives of Iris and Cilan are very vague, they don’t need compete for anything; they have no rivals, but people who live to upset them and make us smile.

jstinftw!

hey trainer
Note- there are a lot of spoilers in this post.

From the beginning, Trip has shown he sees Kanto Trainers as lowly. He feels that Unovan trainers are greatly serperior (see what I did thar? haha). Defeating Ash's Pikachu, his starter, after Ash bragging so much about it only further boosted Trips opinions of Kanto trainers, as well as solidified Trips view of Ash (Ash = Not a good trainer).

Their battles throughout the series also furthered Trip's degrading of Ash. Ash didn't have 6 Pokemon yet, Ash only had 2 badges, Ash makes bad type decisions, as well as doesn't notice why his Oshawott can't aim. All of these things and more add to Trips opinion on Ash; Ash isn't good enough for Trip to battle. Trip's whole thing is to become the best, and he feels battling Ash will only allow himself to become complacent, thereby hindering his goal to become good enough to battle Alder.

So Trip doesn't hate Ash, he just has low opinions of him.

Georgia and Iris, on the other hand, isn't hate because of who they are (so much). It's what they are. Iris is an aspiring Dragon Master, while Georgia is a Dragon Buster. Georgia hates dragons, while Iris loves dragons. They contrast. Add in the fact that Georgia is very obnoxious and Iris is very condescending and you have a pair that'll go together as well as cats and dogs do.

Which is not very much.

And that brings us to the final rivalry; Cilan and Burgundy. Cilan has no animosity towards Burgundy; she's merely a trainer he once battled and an aspiring Pokemon Connoisseur . He only ever tries to out do her when she challenges him to a Pokemon Connoisseur battle. He easily outmatches her, and he does so unconsciously.
Burgundy hates Cilan because she's a very headstrong, prideful person. Cilan completely trounced her in her first Gym Battle, when she felt confident. She took that defeat very personally, and her perspective changed the way she saw things, turning Cilan into an evil person. So, in an act of her own self-righteousness, she vowed to beat Cilan. At everything.

So to answer your question, Trip doesn't hate Ash, Georgia and Iris hate each other because one's cat and one's mouse, and Burgundy hates Cilan because she's a sore loser.

There is a difference between hatred and rivalry.

A Rival disagrees with a protagonist about one thing or another, but is generally friendly or tolerable of them when the situation calls for it. Even Paul was respectful before being beaten to those he thought were worthy of his respect.

Someone who hates the protagonist has no such respect. Someone like, say, that lady who tried to break Ash in half with her Drapion that one time. That's hatred.

The BW trio isn't hated. Ash, Trip and Team Rocket is the ones that are being ganged up on. Iris is loved now and people liked Cilan. They and I didn't like Iris at first and people still wanted Brock back instead of Cilan but now I think people have calmed down.

And here I thought this is suppose to be about fandom reactions. I'm almost disappointed!

Anyway, like Haunter said, it's rivalry, not hatred, we're looking at here. This is the first time (I think?) the entire trio has had rivals, though.

Err, I think you missed the point. It's about characters who hate the trio, not real people.

But it's certainly not hatred. Trip doesn't really like Ash, but he doesn't hate him. He even helped him with Oshawott's Aqua Jet. He thinks Ash isn't a great trainer, but he doesn't have any hatred towards him.

Burgundy and Langley on the other hand do seem to strongly dislike Cilan and Iris.

Colour me surprised, I didn't think Paul was tolerable of Ash....

If there's any rivalry based on hate hate hate of the person, it's Cabernet's hatred towards Cilan, and even then shippers and Kenyan think it's a deep seated Asuka-esque crush towards the guy. Kinda makes me wonder how a rivalry with an equal (if not superior) Sommelier'll play out.

Trip don't have hate for Ash. He just think that Kanto trainers can't battle and Unova trainers are way better trainers. That is why he shows respect for Cilan and calmer towards Iris even though Iris calls him a kid. He just have different views of training. Rivals are two people who have different ways of doing things but aim for the same goal.
Iris and Georgia have a fierce rivalry and Georgia hates dragons while Iris loves Dragons makes them interesting.
Dento and Burgundy: Burgundy has hatred for Dento because he defeated her and she saw him as a evil person. Dento tries to help her grow as a Connoisseur. She is determainated to defeat him at all cost.

I don't think it's hate.

Trip doesn't hate Ash, at the most dislikes him. Even as far back as BW001, Trip thought Kanto trainers were lower than Unova trainers, that's it.

Iris and Georgia simply have different views. Iris wants to be a Dragon Trainer, whereas Georgia hates Dragon Pokemon.

And Burgundy, as far as I'm concerned, just wants revenge against Cilan because he beat her.

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
So wait, are people complaining that each of the main cast has proper rivals for once?

You think the way they didn't give Misty or Brock rivals was a better choice?

Too old for your rubbish..
Trip just sees Ash as the inferior Kanto trainer, but there is no hatred there whatsoever. Georgia has a good 'rivalry' with Iris, because they have conflicting goals, with one training a powerful Dragon type and the other wanting to defeat all Dragon types.

Burgundy however, does have a certain hatred towards Cilan. It could be because he beat her so badly and she wants revenge, but personally I like to believe that she thinks Cilan sucks because she has 'good taste' in people.. which is why I like her. ;)

Yet Burungly is almost exactly like Cilan, even with a similar dress-style.

Indeed, but we don't have to put up with her all the time, which makes her eccentric personality enjoyable instead of a constant never-ending annoyance.

It's the same with Barry, Bianca, Fantina and a couple of other eccentric characters. I find them enjoyable because they're not in my face 24/7.

We haven't seen a lot of the other rivals since the Don tournament. Bianca is the pun in this show so she is more present then the others. But as far as everyone else goes, they haven't really been given that much attention yet. I also remember someone putting a thread like this when DP was happening because if we look back, Ash and Dawn had a lot more rivals than now. And no, I don't think they are hated.

Trip looks down on Ash because he's from Kanto, but doesn't hate him for that.

Burgundy used to hate Cilan because of how she lost to him, but got over it after he acknowledged her as his rival.

Georgia doesn't hate Iris, she hates Dragon-type Pokemon.

Its more like rivals not hate, matter of fact as others have already said, Trip doesn't hate Ash even. Who hates Ash fan wise? Far as I know, hes still pretty popular in Japan and around the world, just cuz on here or Bulba he gets hate doesn't mean any thing.
