Why is The Nightmare Before Christmas so loved?

I remember in late Junior high and in High school lots of kids (yeah 95% goths) loved The Nightmare Before Christmas. I never understood why, but forgot about it. so recently I was in the cafe at my college campus and this group of kids who always sit together were talking about it and some wearing clothing about it. They were going on and on about how great it is.

I decided to watch it, and it wasn't bad, but I don't see why these people practically worship it. Why do they? Is it just because it is a "dark" film?

Oh, u mad bro?
Where would goth kids be without this movie? I mean, its the only reason they have to actually go to the mall other than Hot Topic.

In reality, its an overrated movie. Every "clique" has one. Kinda of like why most kids who pretend to be gangsters worship Scarface. They need something to hold on a pedestal. Even if its an overrated movie.

Yup. TNBC is the trend for people who are all about being anti-trendy. The movie is average (albeit quite creative), Mansinthe tastes like bile, and parachute pants are ridiculous. Trends are a powerful force.

I'm not goth or trendy or anything like that, but I love the Nightmare Before Christmas. I know all the songs by heart and sometimes I can't help but sing them aloud even when no music is playing.

My primary reason for loving the movie so much, is because ever since I was a kid, Halloween was the most magical out of all the holidays. Sure Christmas got you presents, and Easter got you chocolate eggs and even valentine's day gave you candy hearts. Halloween has always seemed so mysterious to me that I've always loved it. I always dress up for halloween. I give candy to kids in costumes. i love the pranks and the horror movie marathons.

That movie will always have a special place in my heart primarily because it shows all the magic and mystery and love I have for the Halloween holiday.

I haven't a clue. I've never been a fan of Tim Burton's work. I actually find him (and Johnny Depp, for that matter) overrated. In my area, I've noticed that the only people who like Tim Burton's stuff are the goths and the scene kids. These are usually the same people who will go to the theatre to watch that new Alice and Wonderland movie or that 9 movie over and over again just because it has Tim Burton's name attached to it.

Tim Burton? Creepiness? An alluring tingle of taboo necrophilia when you glimpse dashing Skelington's long, thin, precise legs-

I don't know. It's probably no greater than any other cult flick. I like it enough.

What's Mansinthe? o_o

I just assume cause it's the latest scary movie and us teenagers need an excuse to waste our money.

I'm not a goth but I love all Burton's works, although lately he's kinda predictable if not boring.

TNBC is a neat movie, it's not grand or anything, but it's always fun to watch over and over again.^^ And of course memorable. So I guess, that's what I think so great about the movie.

Oh yeah, the songs are great.

I don't know why goth teens love Nightmare before Christmas, I liked it cause it's simply good, catchy songs, great claymation, and I'm into the creepy design thing.

Loved this. I agree, It's not that amazing. Nothing in the movie stood out to me, really forgettable.

A movie made in 1991 is the latest scary movie?

Anyway. I've seen a majority of people who wear NBC product have never actually watched the movie. Only buying because it was trendy, those who have watched the movie purposely forget the "What's This?" segement, due to it exposing them to colours outside of black, grey, red and purple.

I don't like it but my sister LOVES it. I don't even like the levels in Kingdom Hearts based after it. -_-

Edit: and my sister isn't even the least bit goth.

Why? Because it's modestly, modestly, ever so slightly acceptable and looks pretty... oh, and the 'creepy but not too creepy (because most goth kids are actually huge pussies)' and 'cute but not too cute (because goths can't admit to liking cute things)'. At least, that's how it looks from here, so I'm sticking to that.

I love the Nightmare Before Christmas (not a goth), and it's probably because I grew up with it. I know all the songs and have most of the lines memorized. Love the art style and the Jack and Sally romance. It's just a classic to me.

The movie is considered to be an instant classic for its stop motion animation, its atmosphere, and its songs. I assume that one of the other reasons why the people who are saying this movie is "overrated" because it's one of those movies that are being favored over the movies they like, which of course is the wrong way to use the word "overrated." Just look at those overrated rant videos on youtube to know what I mean.

Well it's personally my favorite animated movie. It's got a unique style and the best characters and songs of any Disney movie. Oogie Boogie is the best villain ever. I mean really, he's a giant sack of insects that lives in a casino in a tree. Win. And I happen to have This is Halloween and Oogie Boogie's Song on my iPod. Don't hate.
