Why Relicanth and Wailord

As the title says, why are those the ones to open up the "Regi cave". Do they have a secret meaning or connection to the Regis? I possibly understand Relicanth knows them form ancient times...

Anyway, Relicanth is there because he's said to have special "dots" on his back that unlock the mystery between the Regis. Wailord, I don't really know. Maybe he's got some hidden meaning as well.
