Why so few Johto Pokemon?

If you notice [I'm sure y'all have], Johto has way less Pokemon than the other regions. It has 100, Kanto 151, and Hoenn 134. Why did they not add very many for GSC but did a lot more for the other games? Discuss...

Wow, a good question, and the answer is: can someone give me the answer?

cause johoto didnt have enough time to make i think, think about it pokemon blue and red in 98 then yellow in 99 they didnt have alot of time to think of lots of new pokemon for silver for a 2000 release.

Just me
Kanto was the first generation, so they made 150, adding one more as a kind of extra treat. In Johto, they were just adding to the Kanto Pokémon; most of the other Kanto ones were already in Johto so they didn't need that many.

In Hoenn, however, there were relatively few Kanto/Johto Pokémon anywhere, so they needed a bit more Pokémon than just the 100 that were added in Johto.

Kinda glad there aren't as much Johto pokemon, then it would be harder for me to complete the pokedex. Anyway, it was a smaller region, and the second one. Dragonfree was right, they were just adding more pokemon to the Kanto's 151.

Well like Dragonfree has said johto pokes were just an added pokes to the kanto ones, & hoenn has only a few of kanto/johto pokes & it's a new gen so they made more pokes.

Off topic: They should make a remake of Johto.
On topic: Already said that Metal power...

I think because they could not think of so many new ones.

Yeah, you can catch more Kanto pokemon in Johto so maybe that's why they added only 100 pokemon in Johto

Yay! First post!

Yes, beacause so many knato pokemon were in GSC as well as the Johto pokemon.

I think Johto had so few Pokémon compared to the others because the gamepack didn't have enough memory for it.
But what does it matter. For Johto, it's not quantity that counts, but quality. Just look at Blissey, Skarmory, Lugia and Wobbufet. Those four and many others make up for the low amount of Johto Pokémon.

I own the 5th gen
the Unown may've counted as more Pokemon. Though, even then, the number still pales compared to Kantou and Houen's. I'd go with the theory that they were just pressured for game space (GSC supposedly pushed the limits of the Game Boy Color enough as is). Sure, several Kantou Pokemon were available (though, I really wish they would have given more reason for the backwards compatibility), but all things considered, the data for all the Pokemon was there anyway. If the data wasn't there, all your favorites from the old days would be unavailable, even with trading. I'm pretty sure it takes up less data to program where an existing monster will appear in an area than it takes for the monster data itself, so most of the Kantou Pokemon being available in the game doesn't seem like it'd have much to do with the lack of new Pokemon.

Uh. Most all of the Pokémon were already designed prior to Red and Green. They mostly just pick and choose those that look similiar in feel and design, and toss them all in as a Generational Pack, so to speak.

My only wonder is why they didn't put Tamanta in Gold and Silver. ._.
