Every one else wins but Ash till the leagues, best thing ever!

Because having a protagonist that always wins in everything would be lame.

Well, to make us root for Ash and make his victory against said rivals more satisfying when it finally comes.

They don't have to have Ash win all the time, I'm not asking for that to happen. Let him win every once in a while though, I'm fine with ties at times but one win is all I'm asking for. Its ok for guys like Dento or Iris to win heaven for bid to let Ash the main character get a win in against his main rival.

Because it makes people emotionally invested in his eventual victory.

in daimond and pearl it was fine because barry learnt from his loss and got stronger. Paul and ash were qite even and you saw paul lose against other people like brandon. in Diamond and pearl it shows them getting stronger and prgressing

whereas in BW, the rivals just "coincidently" happen to be strong. there is no back story.

Because the writers are too inept to properly write a rivalry. If Ash isn't getting treated like a **** trainer and actually able to pull off wins in a direct battle against his rival pre-Pokemon League, then it isn't a proper rivalry apparently.

To make Ash try harder to win next time

He has to be the underdog otherwise the viewer won't feel prone to cheer him up at the League and excited to see him do well.

It would be interesting if Ash and rival had a relationship like yourself in Johto and the red headed rival, he's arrogant and cruel but always loses to you and can't understand why, and you keep on beating him over and over until he reforms. But the writers would never do it. And the emotional excitement at him doing well isn't gonna cut it since you know Ash will always lose in the next round immediately following the main rival.

SOS! Its Not Healthy..

He Say Whaaa...
The writers want to make Ash look like the underdog. Which is awesome a lot of ways, but in a long run does get tiring. I wish they would change the rivalry formula a bit and exhibits both Ash and the rival their strong points in different ways, like Ash win some, or rival wins. Something along those lines and not be so one dimensional.

Izit cuz I is black?
Ash has defeated Bianca, Stephen, Burgundy AND Georgia... he has tied with Trip... he occasionally bested Paul but was usually not prepared enough which is perfectly in-character. Ash wins plenty of matches throughout the saga, he can have one character who usually wins.

Hopeful for Gen 8
Because Ash is not Jaden Yuki

Ash vs Paul made sense. Wasn't the team Paul had with him for other regions? ash's team was a team he built while in Sinnoh.

the writers love themselves some underdog. nuff said

I hope so because the Sinnoh league was close to victory for him. I can't imagine him becoming victorious here with all of the bad writing.

Honestly can you imagine him being victorious anyway? I thought people would catch on by now...
