WiFi Gym Team (Ground)

Alright, I posted this team some time ago, and I've been trying to rework it a bit. Now, there's a few things about the league that I...need to make clear.

So, I hope this part is ACTUALLY read, and not just the sets.

1) The league does not run on tiers, except that ALL legends are banned. Thats pretty much the only tier rule. Also, I'm not allowed to have ANY Pokemon that aren't Ground types, except for Rock, because they consider that close enough, even though its not. I've taken advantage of that, though. xD
2) Very few people in the league EV train, but those that do know their stuff. I'd say about 90% don't, though.
3) Its for WiFi, so I have no access to Platinum moves. Just like to make that clear.
4) I play in a league with no tiers and few EVers because, well, my friends and I run it and I enjoy playing there. I've tried to introduce tiers, but yeah. Most people were confused by it.

Anyways, I'll shut up, and here's the team.
Its been posted here before, but since I'm now training again, I'd REALLY like some advice. I've actually put some thought into it, but...yeah.

LEAD:

HIPPOWDON
Adamant @ Lefties
224 Hp / 240 Def / 44 SDef
- EQ
- SR
- Slack Off
- Thunder Fang/Ice Fang

Sets up my Sandstorm, mainly. It also sets up Stealth Rock, helping with the alarming number of Flying types I come across. EQ is obviously for STAB, Slack Off for additional recovery, and either T-Fangor Ice Fang for coverage. It was suggested in the last thread that Thunder Fang be used, but I've experimented with both and I'm not quite sure. The HP EVs allow for maximum Lefties recovery, and enough defense to survive a few hits.

[img139]http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpmfa/dpmfa034.png[/img139]
NIDOKING
Adamant @ Life Orb
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
-EQ
-Stone Edge/Double Edge
-Mega Horn
-Fire Blast

A simple Nidoking Sweeper set, and a personal favorite of mine. Life Orb gives the obvious power boost, with maxed out Attack and Speed for...sweeping purposes. SE or DE for more coverage, Megahorn for...coverage, and Fire Blast for the last slot, even with the -SAtk nature.

[img139]http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpmfa/dpmfa389.png[/img139]
TORTERRA
Torterra
Impish @ Leftovers
252 HP / 60 Def / 192 Spe
-Substitute
-Leech Seed
-EQ
-Seed Bomb

From what I've found, Torterra is a very good SubSeeder. Leech Seed or Sub first, then do the other, while fireing away with STAB'd EQs and Seed Bombs. Impish for extra S. Def, max'd health, with enough speed and defense to survive for quite some time, while annoying.

[img139]http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpmfa/dpmfa260.png[/img139]
SWAMPERT
Swampert
Careful @ lefties
252 HP / 52 SAtk / 200 SDef
- Surf
- Roar
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

A mixed Phazer, of sorts. Surf and EQ for the obvious STAB, SE for the more obvious coverage, and Roar for phazing. I'm not too sure on the EVs for this guy, as I haven't run them yet. They were requested by a friend. So help is definately requested for this one.

[img139]http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpmfa/dpmfa051.png[/img139]
DUGTRIO
Dugtrio@life Orb
Jolly Nature
Arena Trap
252 Atk/252 Spd/6 HP
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Aerial ace
-Sucker Punch/Night Slash

A great annoyer Dugtrio. The obvious STAB EQ and Stone Edge, with Aerial Ace for Coverage, and either Sucker Punch for some priority, or Night Slash for the high Critical Hit ratio. Maxed attack is a must, as well as speed, with the rest thrown into attack.

[img139]http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpmfa/dpmfa346.png[/img139]
CRADILY
Adamant @ Life Orb
112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spe
-Swords Dance
-EQ
-Rock Slide
-Recover

One of my favorite Pokemon who works amazingly in a Sandstorm. SD up and sweep is the main rule here, with a boost from Life Orb, and Recover to get some HP back. However, its somewhat fragile.

Obviously, it needs work. I'm definately in need of something good with Special Sweeping/Walling, or even a status absorber. I'm a little too focused on Physical Sweeping, so I'm mainly thinking of replacing one of my sweepers, most likely Dugtrio.

I've been lurking as much as possible, but I'd really like some help from people who KNOW what they're talking about. I know who that is around here.

I don't want you to go easy on me. Yes, I'm still learning, which is why I'm asking for help.

Ooh. The old days of D/P it seems. I'm assuming Garchomp and Wobbufett aren't banned either? It's nice that you don't have to worry about Zapdos/Cresselia and gang.

224 EVs don't hit a max lefties point. Because I'm assuming Garchomp is allowed, you're going to need to get back into the Garchomp hysteria mode. Also, SDLuke can be taken on with Hippowdon now too. Try 236 HP / 232 Def / 40 SDef. Gives Max Lefties, jump point in Def, then rest in SDef. Use Ice Fang.

I would use the mix attacking set here. It uses something similar to this. However, Ice Beam > Double Edge/Stone Edge with an option of T-bolt > Fire Blast, Naughty nature, and 252 Atk / 168 SAtk / 88 Spd. These EVs are to outspeed min Cresselia/Suicune (which are banned here anyways) and Adamant max T-tar. There might be better EVs, but I need to look into that.

Edit: Don't have time to rate right now, so I'll answer this in a quote. I still may be back later.

232 doesn't get you a jump point, 216, 172, 136, 96, 56, 16 . You most likely knew that and it was a typo, just wanted to point that out.
Thanks for the correction! However, you are wrong; 232 is a jump point. Those that you are giving are for bases ending in 0 or 5 (which is still the majority of OU Pokemon). Even then, you made a typo. It should be 176, not 172. You must have been tired. If you wanted to check it, remember that jump points occur when a neutral natured stat is a multiple of ten then is multiplied by 1.1 (a positive nature). So, you could have checked your numbers by making sure they were 40 apart (40 EVs = 10 Stat points and 10 + a multiple of 10 = another multiple of 10).

Anyways, Hippowdon has a base defense of 118 which ends in an 8. Therefore, 232, 192, 152, 112, 72, and 32 are the jump points.
Salavoir55 said:
Just so you don't miss them again, here is how you calculate any 'jump points' mathematically:

For base stats ending in 3 or 8, Tn = -8 + 40n

For base stats edning in 4 or 9, Tn = -16 + 40n

For base stats ending in 0 or 5, Tn = -24 + 40n

For base stats ending in 1 or 6, Tn = -32 + 40n

For base stats ending in 2 or 7, Tn = -40 + 40n

where Tn = the EVs required for a 'jump point,' all Tn's are in the range [0, 248], and n is an integer ≥ 1.

I haven't combined these into one formula yet (assuming it's possible) because it should be fairly easy to track your 'jump points.' Just look for the least amount of EVs it takes to make your minimum stat equal a multiple of ten, then add 40 EVs to those. Each extra 40 EVs equals another 'jump point,' which is really what the equations are saying in plain English.

(I'm so proud of my one mathematical contribution to Pokemon xD!)

impish boosts Defence, not special defence, also what are you trying to outrun with 192 speed?

if you want him to sponge special attacks, give him a sassy nature, as otherwise (with a careful nature) you will lower his spatt, which you don't want if you are running surf.
but generally you only ever want a +spdef nature if you have a curse-pert, i suggest changing his nature to relaxed, and give him 240hp, 216def,52hp he is better as a physical wall as there are very few physical grass attacks

Do not make cradilly a physical attacker as you lack a special wall (if you make swampert relaxed). as he works well in SS. 252hp,160def,96spdef with a careful nature moves:rockslide/recover/toxic/EQ

Thanks guys. xD Gah, I was full of typos last night.
o-o

@Salavoir: Yeah, there's a few Chomps around, but thankfully, most of them are about as effective as a little old lady with a handbag full of Marshmallows. That was actually Hippowdon's original EV set, but I did something to it and...gah, I'm terrible with spreads. xD I'll throw that one back up. For Nidoking, I'll consider it. I really need to do something different with him.

@Definately switching to that Crad set. I originally planned on that set, then the SD set was given to me and it seemed to work a little better, but I'll switch back to that. Damn, how do I keep mixing up my natures? I'm usually better than that. x-x Sorry. Anyways, Swampy's being changed to a Physical Wall.

I'll put these changes in when I get to school in about...pfft...20 minutes. xD I'm running a little short on time this morning.

Again, thanks guys.

Usually, effective SubSeeding comes with minimal investment in HP so you gain a larger percentage of your HP back with Leech Seed. Unfortunately, Torterra isn't the best option for SubSeeding, since it's slower than the second coming of Christ (base speed 56... yikes!). You generally need to be faster, especially if someone comes in to counter you with a fast, 4x effective Ice Beam.

You're in a position of advantage since you EV train and play smart amongst a pool of people who don't, so that strategy could work for you. You also have ways to counter Ice Beams, especially STAB ones, should you want to, but once Torterra comes in, it wants to set up and stick around. So, try this EV spread:

20 HP/20 Atk/216 Def/252 Spe

The HP gets you to the lowest possible Lefties recovery point so you can get maximum efficiency out of them. The Defensive EVs get you to a jump point. Max Speed since you need all the Speed you can get trying to SubSeed, and the rest you dump into Attack.

Now, if you're worried about the 10% of the players in your league who play smart and can handle you, then you might want to refocus what you want Torterra to do, maybe a Rock Polish Sweeper or something along those lines. But if you want to keep it SubSeeding, try that spread and see how it goes. I think it will be a better way to get the job done.
