Will D/P make or break the franchise

Inasmuch as I find "intelligent D/P discussion" an oxymoron save for that one glorious moment, it cannot hurt to at least try.

With that being said, I would like to iterate that I feel D/P lends itself to some strong graphics upgrades and has people jittery-excited about the prospect of using such Pokemon as Munchlax and Manyula, not to mention that merely sporting the Pokemon name will assure a game at least a considerable revenue for Nintendo and Gamefreak. Furthermore, current fans of the franchise will not need to be annoyed that you can't trade between the new games considering that the data formats are able to remain compatible and thus you will be able to transfer items. D/P has a fair few highlights that would compel people to buy it, especially the desire for the game's many fanboys to continue playing.

However, D/P also lends it to some noticeable pitfalls when it comes to its marketing campaign, the biggest of which I feel it being put on the DS. While in and of itself this is a wise marketing move considering that former Pokemon games would dictate that D/P should essentially be a killer app for the DS, and in addition allows for a more embellished environment, it has also managed to vex people who do not own a DS, albeit not me. Another worrying factor, though nowhere on the scope of that which I just mentioned, is the lack of Manaphy in D/P by any standard means: it entails that you buy a ticket to see the latest movie to unlock a quest in Ranger, which must then be completed should you wish to nab the critter. For all we know, this might not even hold for America and Europe. Manaphy is regrettably one of the most popular new Pokemon out now, which surely came to its fans' chagrin once CoroCoro announced the exclusivity.

Yet, on the whole, Diamond and Pearl have enough support them behind them to be mildly successful games at the very worst. It is regrettably true that many players will not be willing to buy a DS for what will likely be their exclusive DS game - after all, if you have wanted to play DS games, you would likely have bought one by now - yet, at the same time, the fandom of many a player will win them over into buying a DS and at least one of the games. We still have yet to see the DS Micro, which might turn out offering a better deal than the current DS (or vice versa) while still offering the same functionality. Furthermore, depending on the release date of D/P in the locales aside from Japan, they could very well be scheduled to occur before that immense profit holiday we like to call Christmas and thus become an intensely hot commodity.

Do not worry about your detractors, just fly, soar to victory, wow the huddled masses who doubted your abilities. I have faith in you, Gamefreak.
