Will Gary be Ash's rival Again?

I know that Gary had quit his dream be a pokemon master to be a pokemon researcher. I think in someway Gary will probably want to pursue that dream again and possibly participate in leagues again. What do you guys think.

He didn't say anything about competing in a league again, and the new opening doesn't even feature Gary.

Ash's main rival is Shinji, Gary so far isn't even confirmed to be in the D/P anime.

Gary was only in three episodes of Johto during the journey. Considering Johto was 150 episodes long, Gary only appearing in three episodes was pretty pathetic. Ash "barely" had a rival then either. Of course Gary appeared in every episode of the actual league though.

AG gave all the rivals to May.

D/P seems to split the rivals evenly between Shinji for Ash and the lesbian looking girl for Hikari.

I'm not so sure that it's going to be that clear-cut... we've barely seen any of D/P and we could end up being stooged as we have in the past.

Gary doesn't want to become a Pokemon Master, anymore so as of now he doesn't have a rival.
I never thought of this, but what will happen if Ash decides to retire and his partner decided to complete the journey?

Ash's main current rival now is Shinji and after that in the end of the Shinou saga Ash will defeat Shinji and Ash will lose to Gary,then they both will become rivals again,and we will say "bye bye" to Shinji.
