WinTV2000 - Picture problem

I'm having a bit of trouble with WinTV2000. The picture is all static and fuzz, even when I'm using videos and DVDs to take pictures. Does anyone know a solution -- would I need an antenna or something 'cause that might be the case. Thanks in advance ;136;

DVD output is encrypted so that the picture is scrambled when it goes to the TV. The reason is that the DVD disc has copy protection that prevents it from viewing. If you have a DVD-Rom drive, why not use PowerDVD or WinDVD to capture the picture if the software can. If not, you need a special device that unscrambles the DVD output to your computer and it's sold in electronics stores like Best Buy.

Hmmm... I don't think that's the case because I was able to take good screenshots the first time I set it up. When I flipped through the other channels, they were scrambled, too. And where I live, we've had very windy weather (at least that's what my mom thinks).

What video source do you use, Cable or Sattelite? If so, make sure the cables are connected correctly. Antennas (aka bunny ears) aren't recommended for computers since they don't produce a good picture and it's hard to get reception. I tried but it doesn't work and I don't have a cable connection in this room yet.

I actually have a Hauppauge receiver, and I can tell you from experience that that's just the way it looks. Nothing that comes through analog on WinTV looks good, at all, be it an antenna or VCR or whatever.

Check your connections again, though, just to be sure. If it looked good before but doesn't now, could be a bad connection somewhere.

That could be it. Since I want to take pictures from my videotapes and DVDs (I have a combo), which connector do I hook it up to?

And if I do need an antenna for better reception, what kind of antenna would I need?

An antenna won't help unless you're watching TV channels with an antenna, which doesn't sound like what you're trying to do.

I don't think you'll be able to do it actually due to something called (I think) Macrovision which detects if you're trying to make copies of videos and DVDs (read--outputting to something that's not a TV) and whatnot and screws with the picture. Don't know if that's exactly the case, but it could be.

Otherwise, what kind of wire are you using to hook this combo to the computer?

My sister will be coming home on the 17th. She's a computer whiz -- she might be able to figure it out.

I am not making copies of my DVDs -- I'm taking screenshots from them, like the episode screenshots seen here on Serebii.net. I'm not sure what kind of wire I use...

I understand you're not making copies, but if Macrovision detects anything other than a TV at the other end of that cable, it screws with the picture.

Well, here's another idea, how are you tuning the VCR on your computer? Are you seeing it on channel 3 or 4, or on the Line Input?

It's set on channel 3, like I would set the other VCRs/DVD players with the TVs in my house.

Okay, then you are using an antenna cable to hook it up. Try changing the output on the back of the VCR to channel 4, and tune channel 4 on WinTV. See if it helps.

If not, we'll try something else. My running theory is that you have a TV station on 3 leaking into the line, making the VCR's picture look bad.
