Wireless adapter problems (hurry)

Last Friday I loaned my friend's GBA and her wireless adapter so I could trade Pokémons between my games (note: I have the adapter, too). At first I loaned it just to trade Latias from my Sapphire to my Emerald, but then I figured out that I could trade more Pokémons from Sapphire (and from FireRed). So, I catched lots of Pokémons that I would trade. BUT, HERE'S THE POINT. Ladies in the trade center (PokéCenter's upstairs) are saying that the other trainner is too far away when I try to trade Pokémons! Same is with my FireRed and Emerald! Even if the adapters are so close that they touch each other, the ladies say "the other trainer is too far away or the other trainer is not ready". It's A BIT ODD because the union room and berry crushing works!! I've done in FR that mission where I had to find Ruby and Sapphire so that wonder machine on Island one could work.
Could the problem be in that I haven't yet passed the E4 in Emerald?

Help me, please! I sent this message few days ago to Shining Mew, but she hasn't responsed yet...

9. Q: How do I trade with FR/LG?

A: You need to beat the E4 and get the National Dex in Emerald, and in FR/LG you need to do the same, plus fix Celio’s Network Machine.

Right in the FAQ, emphasis mine.

Also keep in mind that the wireless adapter does NOT work with Ruby/Sapphire, you need a link cable for those.
