Nintendo wanted to make the cards themselves. Besides, WotC really flopped in Europe with the Expedition/Aquapolis/Skyridge sets. Hardly sold any at all.

Those expansions also did not do that well in the US. The only draw of those sets were the unique Crystal types that were released in the Aquapolis/Skyridge sets, but those lacked the playability that the EX cards have.

I also believe that WotC did not meet the standards that Nintendo had placed on them. When the contract was up for renewal before the release of the Sapphire/Ruby set, WotC offered a lower amount for the contract than Nintendo was willing to settle for, and hence, the property reverted back to them.

Frankly, I have no complaints with Nintendo's handling of the Pokemon TCG. Yes, I receive fewer cards per pack, but, I enjoy the revamped reverse holos and that they're releasing more promotional cards(ie. Pop series) now.

I agree, Nintendo have definitely done the game justice, more so than WotC would be doing if they were still in charge. I think the best thing we've got from Nintendo is, bar the fantastic card design, Pokémon-ex.

Well wotc never made any cards, they just translated and printed them in english, after the craze died down wizards mostly stopped promoting the game with leagues/tourneys and sales kept going lower, so when when the contract expired Nintendo didn't like the way they were handling stuff so they didn't renew the contract and started themselves, they have done a GREAT job with it too.

And the less cards per pack started since WOTC too.

That's not quite true either, sdp.

WotC did produce several cards that were their very own, including the Promo Eevee#11 card and the promo Mewtwo card #12. These cards and their designs were first featured in the US. The Eevee card, as I recall, was released as a ToysRUS promo, and the Mewtwo in issues of Nintendo Power magazine. Anywho, these cards, in their English version, did eventually make it to Japan where they became promotional items for the JR Railroad Summer 2000(?) promo.

I think it's strange how when Nintendo took over, they completely changed the card template. What was wrong with the WotC style.

I might note that Nintendo of America is no longer in charge of the marketing or distribution Pokemon TCG in any way. Now Pokemon USA, Inc. is in complete control of the Pokemon TCG including its Organized Play programs. Right now the only involvement for Nintendo is only the video games today, everything else is handled by Pokemon USA, Inc. Also note that Pokemon, USA Inc. is a division of The Pokemon Company and is not truly a part of Nintendo in any way these days.

Also Wizards was responcible for the original cards per pack drop from 11 to 9. This was because of growing inflamation of the economy and the introduciton of e-Reader code into the Pokemon-e TCG. Since then when Pokemon USA and Nintendo took over from EX: Ruby and Sapphire and on, e-Reader code partially continued, then from EX: Hidden Legends the Pokemon TCG no longer featured the e-Reader Codes. Nevertheless the card pack count remained the same.

Overall TCG is better than ever now.
