Word...annoying situation

This is exactly a problem, but it's annoying, and I don't want it.

On Microsoft Word (2003), this thing appeared, and I don't know how to remove it.

Any help?

Does it happen every time you open WORD or is it a particular file?

Everytime.

When you type, do the words appear in between those? I don't have Word anymore to hunt around to see if I can figure what those are, but they might be something controlled by a viewing option?

Yep, they appear between it.
