If this has been done before you can close this thread. I am not still trying to have people whine over this, but I am creating this because of reading the thread about could ash have beaten Takuto with using other pokemon. I don't know if Ash's strongest team could have beaten Paul's strongest team, let a lone a team of legendaries (most likely for takuto).

Who would Win?

Ash (or you can switch who you think is the strongest)

Im sure (dont know where I heard it) that Paul or someone in that 3-ep arc said something about Paul choosing his best. Bar Torterra, I think that was his number one set?

It doesn't matter what team Paul use. The writers would have had Ash win regardless.

Jee, Charizard, no surprise there. He should have Pikachu, Torterra, Infernape, Buizel, Staraptor(the fall guy), and Gliscor against Paul's Torterra, Honchkrow, Electivire, Magmortar, Aggron, and Drapion..... Ash would have lost by the way.

I think he could of beaten him, if he used his Sinnoh team, especially if he had used his power-up Torterra technique.
I also think his other reserves could of beaten him too, that team you chose in your OP, plus pokemon like Bulbasaur, and Kingler too. (Bulbasaur is always left out :( Its a shame too, its an awesome powerhouse for Ash)

Didn't we have this discussion during the Sinnoh League?

Anyway, I don't think Ash could beat Paul's standard team with his Sinnoh team.

I think his Sinnoh Team could win. They lost before partly because of Ash's bad commands ^^; If Ash & Paul had a battle with the same Pokemon from their first full battle(Sinnoh team being fully powered), and Ash thinks things through, they could win it. Not to say that they would completely blow him out of the water, just that I think they can at least pull it off

This ia the team I would've liked to see, eventually the wirters gave him a new team and too bad, because he never beaten Honchkrow (battle), Torterra and Magmortar. The Sinnoh team eventually defeated Paul, but in my opinion he would've lost again to Paul's strongest team, maybe 6-5 and not 6-2.

I don't get the term "standard team". Do you mean Paul's "best possible" team by that? We can assume that the team Paul used against Ash in the league is what he thought to be best utilized against Ash. Paul underestimated Ash when he faced him in the league. I still highly doubt that the team you proposed for Paul as his "standard team" is the best team he could have assembled for Ash in the league. Keeping in mind about his record over Ash, it is possible that he had underestimated Ash and brought a semi-strong team to face him and saved his strongest Pokemon for semifinal/final. I believe he was fully aware of Takuto since he does his homework about his opponents, so I wouldn't be surprised had he saved his best Pokemon for Takuto instead of Ash.

Ash's best possible team > Paul's best possible team as long as Ash has a strategy. We haven't gotten a peek at Paul's absolute roster yet, which is why I don't think Paul's team against Ash in the league is his best possible team or his "standard team", as you'd like to put it. You can't rule out the possibility that Paul could have Dragonite, Salamence, or Rayquaza; and wouldn't he rather save them for someone stronger than Ash, such as Takuto, instead of wearing them out by battling Ash?

Anyway, why would Paul use essentially the same team against Ash twice? Would that not make him an enormous hypocrite, since he criticised Ash for it during the battle (I think)?

The team Paul assembled for his match vs. Ash was the best one he could have used to defeat him. Paul didn't "go easy" on Ash and bring a crap team. By beating Paul, Ash showed himself to be the superior trainer.

Ash's best possible team > Ash's Sinnoh team > The best team Paul could put together to beat Ash. I think that settles it, quite honestly. I think we could have seen Torterra and Honchkrow in that battle, but meh.

It doesn't matter what teams they used, Ash was going to win so he could fight Darkrai boy.

Paul's story has finished now, and it's highly likely that he won't be back. Ever. We will always speculate on what he could have, but as far as the facts we have go, the Pokemon we've seen are all Paul has. As such, I would have to agree with Newguy; I think Ash's ultimate team>Ash's Sinnoh team>whatever team Paul thought was best to fight Ash. Don't tell me you honestly think anyone could have a Rayquaza of all things? Or was that just to emphasise your point?

I mean yeah, you can't rule out that Paul has Rayquaza, but it's pointless conjecture. You also can't rule out that Paul is a dark, evil lord possessed by Cthulhu or something. There's zero evidence for either.

Of course he would, the writers planned everything from the start, they wanted Ash to win so he'd win no matter what

Yes, it is possible that Paul won't be back. Ever. But then again, Gary made cameos not as a trainer, but as a Pokemon researcher, and Paul is a trainer who travels from regions to regions - most likely it will stay that way. I wouldn't be surprised if Ash bumps into Paul in Isshu region or something like that. Maybe Paul will be in Isshu to hone his skills against other varieties of Pokemon that are not available in Kanto/Johto/Hoenn, so that he can challenge the battle frontier and win it.

I think you got it backwards. Ash's best possible team > Paul's best possible team > Ash's Sinnoh team (since we don't know about Paul's absolute roster and due to Paul's record over Ash)

About Rayquaza,

I mean yeah, you can't rule out that Paul has Rayquaza, but it's pointless conjecture. You also can't rule out that Paul is a dark, evil lord possessed by Cthulhu or something. There's zero evidence for either.

Takuto had a Darkrai, Latios, and possibly other legendaries for all you know, so who's to say Paul can't have a Rayquaza. He might have kept it as his secret weapon up on his sleeve to counter Takuto's legendaries, because like Gary, he's one of the trainers who do their homework on their opponents ahead of time. You like to bring up game statistics regarding the base stats of Mewtwo and Arceus (Mewtwo is indisputably strongest). Norman had a Slaking (base stats 670), so why is it a pointless conjecture that Paul could possibly have a Rayquaza (base stats 680)? Beat that!

With the help of spanish subs on youtube vids, in the early stage of their battle, Paul told Ash that he assembled his most powerful pokemon for this battle. Based on that, I think its safe to say that Ash could defeat Paul's standard team, especially since he managed to beat Paul's most powerful pokemon.

I honestly don't think Ash could have beaten Paul's standard team with his Sinnoh team, at least not in their next battle. Maybe if they'd battled several more times he could have eventually done it, but not straight away. Why? Because Paul is used to Ash's Sinnoh team and used to fighting them with his standard team. In the League he used a mostly different team and had to adjust to battling Ash's Sinnoh team with different Pokemon, that is one of the reasons why he lost. If Paul had used the team he normally uses to battle Ash, he wouldn't have had to do that. Now, if Ash had used a team of his best, Charizard, Sceptile, Snorlax, Swellow, and the like, I think he would have had a much better shot to beat Paul's standard team because Paul was unfamiliar with those Pokemon. That's what it boils down to in the end, I think.
