Would you say Pikachu's popularity is justifiable?

I personally think the little guy is as cute as it's made out to be. In fact, I would go far to say it is one of the cutest Pokemon in my eyes, so I can see why it's so popular.

Well... Pikachu shares the spotlight of the anime along with Ash and considering how cute, cool (don't pelt me with tomatoes), and all that kind of stuff he is, it wouldn't make sense if he was NOT popular.

I mean... come on! Along with Ash and the Pokeball, Pikachu is probably the emblem of the Pokemon serie!

So I say... yes, it's popularity is justified (the fact that despite being a Kanto Pokemon, Pikachu remains one of the Pokemon who has the most solid graphical design says a lot about it too. Face it, Pichu and Plusle/Minun, as cute as they may be, still don't have the appeal of the original electric rat).

Now, in the games... is it all it is cracked up to be? Well, Pikachu isn't exactely a powerhouse, unfortunately... well, the ones you can catch and raise, that is.

Ash/Red's Pikachu at the end of the metal serie of Pokemon games is EVIL!... but well, everyone knows that.

Well, that's my opinion.

I, for one, don't like Pikachu at all. It's just...annoying. e_e;; It gets too much spotlight, is always shoved in our faces, and other than Latias, I've just never liked "cute" Pokémon.

Pikachu is fine in my books. Honestly, in the series (especially AG) Pikachu is such a non-factor nowadays that sometimes I forget it's there. Aside from blasting off TR in every episode, Pikachu isn't shoved down our throats as much as it used to be.

I can also see why Nintendo chose to make Pikachu the mascot of the franchise in general, it just has "star role" written all over it. As said above, it appeals to both genders.

Hell, thank goodness we didn't get the writers original decision of Ash getting a Clefairy as his first Pokemon. Can you imagine Ash with a girly Clefairy on his shoulder in every episode? Maybe if it talked like the one from the *****, but anime Clefairy with Ash? Wow, that would be like suicide.

Thank goodness they chose Pikachu.

No, Pikachu gets much more spotlight than he actually deserves. Okay, I can understand that he's cute and stuff, but 400+ episodes of Pika being the major Pokemon is uber annoying. -.-; Besides, it isn't the most fabulous Electric type out there either; basically and frankly it just annoys the hell out of me.

Yeah, Clefairy would have been worse, but Pika isn't very much better either. All right, maybe in the beginning it was but it's getting very annoying now. Well, at least to me. >__>

He's cute and all, yes, but sometimes when my friends tease me about I being a pokemon fan, I just want to kill pikachu and put some other poke as a mascot. -_- But wasn't pikachu designed a little different originally to R/G/B? Compare the sprites in the pokedex to the Yellow one.

I HATE. I repeat. I HATE that overrated rat. It may look cute. But is it really that cute? Nah. But it's overrated when it's a complete weakling. I think he get's too many spot light for being ash's main pokemon. And that's one pikachu. Think about the other Pikachus. Are they in the anime? Pikachu, go, to your death (don't know who I got that off.)

Is Greenday's popularity justified?

Give something limelight and it will become popular. Give something that appeals limeligght and you have a fad on your hands. From a marketing point of view, Pikachu's popularity is the best thing that happened to pokemon, due to the little yellow rat making it easy to know what the game was.
However in a fan's eye view, then it is a different matter.
