Which comes at any moment, any place. Be aware of sudden inspiration. That's where a lot of ideas come from.

Good luck to you.

The Compromise
Planning ahead is what I do. I first perfect the plot, then create a basic framework of what I am about to write. Random scenes do come from sudden inspiration, and I use my urge to write them to get through the earlier chapters. XD

Also, plan ahead. That way, if you dont get to that idea, you will feel letdown.

Isn't that a bad thing? XD I don't wanna feel bad.

Sometimes it's a good thing to plan ahead, and other times it isn't. If you follow your outline completely, then you could possibly kill your story. The best way to go about it is just allow the story to go where it needs to in order to grow. Really, all you need is just a basic idea, and see where it goes. Even just see what happens if you allow the characters to tell the story. Don't force them to do what you want them to do. See how they act.

Lots of writers have ideas that they started, then abandoned, so don't feel bad. It's all part of the learning process to see what works and what doesn't.

If you have a true passion for writing, you will keep at it. It is rather hard to let go of it once you experience the rush of creating a new world.

If you do plan ahead, be aware that what you planned is not set in stone--you can add to it, delete from it, or change it as you see fit.

Inspiration can come from the strangest places. I've gotten inspiration from songs, cartoons, and even my own memories.

If it helps, have some music on while you're working, Visualize in your mind what's happening in the story as that song plays (if it's an instrumental) or imagine which character is singing the song (if it has vocals)

I'm almost the opposite in the way I plan. When I start writing, all I know is how I want it to end, and maybe one or two things in the middle. Instead of writing myself directions from point A (the beginning) to point B (the end), I kind of wander around in between.

I always end up with some kind of plot, of course, usually one that seems to flow easier than seeming like it's been forced to fit with ideas you had that you had when you first put together the story. It might not work for everyone, as some people write better with a rigid outline, and others write better like this. It's all a matter of personal preference. The best suggestion would be to try all the things the people say in here and find the one that works best for you. There's no right or wrong way, really.

But I definitely suggest some soft background music, as I think almost everyone would. Lyrics get distracting, often.

For me, I usually have the the beginning and end pictures in my head but having to fill the gap in the middle is usually the hardest.

Anyway, I can't really say anything without repeating what others say. T.V. reading, movies and my personal favourite, music always helps me to get ideas for my fic/fics. Just try these things out and see which one suits you best.

What I mean is if you plan far in advance, if you slack off or dont do that story, you may feel bad that nobody else ever saw your ideas. Thats what keeps me going. I just plan so far ahead, that if I dont continue at a relativly fast pace, I feel letdown. So to avoid feeling letdown, I keep working at what Im writing.

Also I would recommend posting chapters as soon as possible because if you stop you will feel guilty about not letting your audience read more. I guess that's pretty similar to what was said above, but it is slightly different.
