Wurmple Personality Value

So Wurmple evolves into Silcoon or Cascoon depending on its personality value. When you catch a wurmple how do you know its personality value and how does it work?

It's a hidden value in the game that you can't see or calculate in any way. It's basically random which one you're going to get when your Wurmple evolves.
