Wurmple

There's no section on the main site about this so I thought I would ask about it.

Does anyone know how/why Wurmple evolves into Silcoon or Cascoon? The Pokedex says that it's by Personality Value...what is that?

Thanks :)

it's not too clear, but it's evolutionary path is set on one of the two forms when it's generated and encountered.

Sorry, that's not true.

At this time, no one has been able to figure out what Wurmple's evolution is based on, but PDL is correct--its evolution is set for each Wurmple.

Whatever determines it, it's a hidden value, so it's really completely random what evolution you'll get. Catch a bunch and evolve until you get the right one, or catch a Cascoon/Silcoon.

TRJessie579 has right, catch a Silcoon or Cascoon to do it faster without training a lot of Wurmples.

PS= I thought that Wurmple evolves in what time is it, like Shoal Cave. In night into a Cascoon and in morning into a Silcoon.

There have been many theories about this question and it has appeared many time on the board. Some of the theories include Day/Night Evolution, Gender Evolution and some even claims it has to do with the natures! However all these theories have been proven wrong and this is the correct answer: Random! Yes, nothing determines whether Wurmple evolves to become Silcoon or Casoon. It is random! If you want to save time. I suggest you just capture a Silcoon or Cascoon from the Petalburg Forest.
That's the answer.

^ Pointless post, please don't be an idiot!

I think it is just completely random! Which it probably is...

I'd say i bielived it based on like this:

Sp.Def<Sp.att = Cascoon
Sp.Def>Sp.att =silcoon.

Oh well...

i tend to evolve one then catch the other, so it dont bother me much.
But it is a weird game mechanic that for some is a waste of time

According to bulbapedia, wurmple's evolution is based off it's personality value. This is a 32-bit number that is randomly generated when it is encountered. If when the lower two bytes divided by 10 has a remainder of 0-4, it will evolve into silcoon, 5-9, it will evolve into cascoon.

However, since there is no way to find out a pokémon's personality value, it's just going to be random.

The answer is,is that it depends on the time,if its the morning its Silcoon but at night its Cascoon.

Have you even read the posts in this thread?
Just catch a silcoon or cascoon or just catch tons of wurmples.

I thought the evolution of wurmple had to do with wether it was daytime or nighttime. At night it evolves into the one that is a darker color and in the day it evolves into the one that's a lighter color. Yes i believe that is right forgive me if i am wrong because it worked for me. I wanted a beautifly and asked my brother-in-law Andrew how to do it he said to evolve wurmple into i think it was silcoon and he said it had to be daytime to get one and nightttime to get the other. I think i am right.

I've never really payed much attention to the evolution of Wurmple, even though I'm still very curious. This is mainly because no matter what time of day I evolve Wurmple, I always get Cascoon and therefore Dustox. So every time I started playing my game and I would reach the Petalburg Forest, I would always catch a Silcoon and a Wurmple. The Wurmple would always become a Cascoon. However for the first time in my life, when playing Emerald my Wurmple actually evolved into a Silcoon. I still don't know why.

Hey that's a good idea. I use to catch a Wurmple and release it just so that the PokeBall would appear next to it in the PokeDex. Then I would catch the 'coons and evolve them.

IT IS NOT A DAY/NIGHT EVOLUTION. >>;;

The evolution is set for each Wurmple, as many people have said. Plus this has also been proven false because Wurmple can evolve in FR/LG, where there is no clock.

I suggest all of you posting completely randomly check out this announcement. :)

To prevent more "not reading the thread" syndrome, I'm going to close this. Something hidden influences it, since we can't see it anyway it's random until we can prove otherwise.
