To commemorate the latest X-Men movie, the Last Stand, I decided to create a X-Men RPG. Enjoy!
X-Men: The Path to Darkness
Basic Overview of X-Men:
For as long as anyone can remember, there have always been two worlds on this planet. The normal world and the ‘mutant’ world. This ‘mutant’ world that co-exists with the ‘normal’ world is home to a ‘race’ of people called mutants. These mutants are still nonetheless, human beings; sometimes there is no way of telling them apart from ‘normal’ people, while other times, it is glaringly obvious.
They are still so called Homo sapiens; we are of the same blood and flesh. The only difference is mutants, who are actually called Homo sapien superiors, possess fantastical, unreal, even deadly supernatural powers they were born with. Their powers range from the ability to levitate a small teaspoon to the power to cause a Hurricane, even to take lives in mass numbers with the simple flick of a finger. Nonetheless, even though their powers and abilities are great; they are still human beings, and speak in the languages used by humans. And so the Mutant World existed alongside our world…
The two worlds have co-existed for many centuries; some times being more peaceful than others. Nevertheless, we still shared the same soil and turf and the two worlds managed to keep sound harmony. That was until recent times…
Unfortunately, not all mutants and civilians are as mild and open minded as it is desired. Not all mutants are good, some turn bad, evil. These mutants turn bad and openly show their hate they have for normal humans. These dark mutants believe in Mutant Superiority over baseline humans and believe in the so called ‘blood purity’; that those with superpowers, are superior to all of those who are not, and the humans should be rid of.
They torture and kill humans; they blackmail their supporters, even if they are mutants themselves. But most gruesome of all, these people will not stop at any chance to achieve their goal; all who stand in their way are killed. The humans, spiteful, full of hatred and most importantly, afraid, grew a bitter prejudice against the mutants; even those who support them… For many years blood have been shed; both innocent and guilty…
For many years, three forces fought bitterly against each other; mutants who believe in mutant superiority, humans who are afraid and spiteful towards mutants and the mutants who believe in peace; those who believe mutants and humans can peacefully co-exist. Many lives have been lost on all sides but in recent times, peace had been preserved and the evil mutants were no more. But they were not gone; for they lied dormant in the ranks of men, patiently waited for the perfect chance to strike. All they needed was a leader to lead them in battle and to achieve their goal…
It all began on a typical day in the newly formed State of Israel. A Jewish man, who had recently experienced the horrors of the Holocaust, was at the psychiatric hospital near Haifa, where he and many other Holocaust survivors were receiving counselling to help release them from their traumas. There, the man met a crippled worker in a wheel chair at the hospital.
The two then became immediate friends and they held lengthy debates hypothesising what would happen if humanity were to be faced with a new, super-powered, race of humans. The Jewish man believed the new race of humans should and would conquer over the humans in a militant fashion while the crippled worker thought the two races should and would peacefully co-exist in harmony. The two men then departed and left in their separate ways. Those two men were known as Erik Magnus Lehnsherr and Charles Francis Xavier. Little did they know what was soon to follow…
There is a gene called the “X-Factor” that determines if you are to be a mutant or a human. Those with the gene are mutants while those without it are not… That gene had been dormant for a notable amount of time been suddenly, it started to reappear rapidly in the new generation of teenagers; the two worlds were soon forced to collide again…
The humans were afraid; the mutants were now growing in mass numbers. They were afraid of them. Many killed and committed mass genocide of mutants. Things were getting out of hand. Soon, the evil mutants were getting restless… and bloodthirsty... Then it happened…
The evil mutants were united under one leader while the good mutants were also united under one leader. Two forces were about to collide. These two leaders were now called Magneto and Professor X.; once known as Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier…
Xavier’s group was known as the X-Men; Magneto’s group named themselves the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Rivals, enemies, nemeses, call them what you wish but the two forces fought bitterly and casualties were on both sides…
Finally, after the efforts of many people, humans and mutants alike, the Brotherhood had been defeated. People rejoiced and the X-Men were smiling with relief; a battle had been won. But the war was not over yet…
Destiny, a female mutant, was blessed with the power of precognition; she was able to foresee the future to come. Before she became blind and her powers suffered, she wrote all of her prophesies in a series of journals. Her journals were then lost and she died at the hands of a mutant called Legion. Her journals were not to be taken lightly and for a good reason…
Six months after the fall of Brotherhood, exactly 2:07 A.M., on the fourth of February, a young female mutants residing in the X-Mansion, was struck down by a mysterious illness and she soon laid dead in a matter of seconds. Doctors were baffled at illness; they had never seen one quite like it before. It was dismissed as a tragedy and a fluke. But soon, then another mutant, then another; things were getting serious. Then finally, a human child died. Something was happened and it was definitely not good.
The illness, dubbed the “Legacy Illness”, named after the infamous Legacy Virus, spread quickly among the ranks of men, both mutant and human, taking lives at an astonishing rate. Doctors could not identify the disease, nor find a cure to it. Soon the disease took the lives of millions. A team of talented geneticists managed to find an Antibody which slowed down the rate of the disease’s effects but people still died at a fast rate and something must be done about it.
Also, during the midst of chaos, all the former members of the Brotherhood had disappeared mysteriously. Xavier knew this was not a simple coincidence…
But Storm, also known as Ororo Munroe, finally found something that brought both hope to the X-Men, and a chill down their spine. In the city of Nairobi, capital of Kenya, she had discovered a handwritten journal; the handwriting was Destiny’s. She brought the journal to her team-mates and inside was as follows:
Mutants and humans fight bitterly with one another. Some may say it is necessary, others say it is stupid and pointless. But soon, they will be forced to be reunited, for what the future holds for this planet is beyond my imagination- and my nightmares. The Decimation, The Legacy Virus, The Genocide at Genosha; all of those are horrible, terrible things that would happen. But what I have seen is more terrible than all three of these combined. Long ago, when the world was still young, an entity of pure evil emerged.
It had powers beyond people’s imaginations. It was almost invincible. Soon this evil spread throughout the worlds like an epidemic and consumed the hearts of people with evil and corrupted them. People were in despair; they did not know what to do. But the Five Legendary Mutants emerged. The mutants each had a power; The One of Courage, the One of Love, the One of Wisdom, The One of Kindness and The One of Faith in a climatic battle against the evil. The Five won but were only able to seal the evil away, for the cost of their lives.
The Five then in their dying breath, transformed themselves into pure magical entity, and were to be reborn, reincarnated, resurrected as another person, different yet with the same soul, to save the world; when the time is right. Their souls became dormant, hidden in the chasms of time, to be reawakened when the time is right; when their wielder has reappeared.
The Evil then waited patiently for the right moment to strike. When it comes, people will die, women will scream, children will cry. It will summon a disease, more powerful and deadly than all the diseases the world has seen combined, to prepare its way; to ease things for itself. All hope will be lost but this prophesy is the answer, the only answer, to this evil:
Five strange fingers form Fate’s hand,
Each one plays part at Fate’s command.
A clouded past, the answers it keeps,
Until its time each secret sleeps.
When pain is truth and truth is pain,
The Evil of The Past shall be freed again.
Five shall go but five shall not return,
Vain hope and pride in terror burn.
To unravel this mysterious, these Five must travel back in time to undo this evil but woe to these Five as troubled times lie ahead. The war may seem to be won but the real battle has just begun and the true evil was still waiting for the perfect chance to strike…
And those who face the wrath of the evil shall feel the indescribable pain and may God have mercy on them for I as a mortal soul do not know as only God knows what will happen to them…
The X-Men looked at each other. They knew what was to be done. If what Destiny said was true then the Five must be found as it was their only hope. Xavier then proceeded to be Cerebra to try and locate the Five. Somebody had to travel back to the exact moment of when the Disease first struck, perhaps a few weeks prior, and undo this evil and horror. Professor X. certainly hoped that the legend was true…
Summary:
You are one of the predestined Ones of Courage, Love, Wisdom, Kindness and Faith. You don’t know that. All you know is that you have received a strange letter to attend a seminar at some Xavier’s Institute for Higher Learning. The X-Men will send you back in time, using some DNA of Time Travelling Mutants and some Shi'ar technology, time-travel approximately four weeks before the Disease first struck. You must try and solve the mystery of Disease and this “Evil”. You will probably encounter the Brotherhood along the away. Your adventure starts at the front gate of the Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning where you will first meet the soul of your past life and become One again…
Okay, now that that’s done, I suppose I have to explain technical terms now?
The Five and their Souls: As you know, the Five were five (duh) really powerful mutants (Omega Level) who once sacrificed their lives to defeat and seal-up the “Evil”. Their souls were separated from their bodies and were dormant; asleep for many centuries until the time was right. After they wake up, they will find you, their now newly reincarnated bodies, and become one; thus linking you with your past self as one of the Five. You will slowly gain your old powers; the ones you had when you were one of the Five. But they will return VERY slowly and you will only be able to fully develop and control them in the later parts of the RPG. The rate they return and HOW they return depend on your choice of One (i.e. Courage, Love, etc.) You are one of the Five, an Omega Level Mutant, but whose powers are VERY undeveloped so you start off as pretty weak, then slowly get your old powers. You have NO knowledge of your past life and that will stay that way.
Sign-Ups:
Keep in mind that this is NOT The X-Men’s story. It is related but not the same. Remember to keep your characters far away from the X-Men. In the RPG, you’ll have NO IDEA about The Brotherhood, Destiny’s Diaries and anything major; there is no real reason you should. You probably don’t know much about mutants either apart you ARE a mutant. Don’t make your character like he/she was sitting right behind Rogue or Iceman all the time. Nobody could have apart from the main witnesses. Also, regarding characters from Alternate Universes that are NOT Marvel’s and those who are related to the main characters; I want NONE of it. I’m sorry but Plot Purposes. Your character is one of the predestined Ones. You must choose one of the following Crests. Courage, Love, Wisdom, Kindness and Faith. Only ONE person can have each one and as I’m taking Wisdom, basically only four other people will be in this RPG. I’m sorry but I wanted to try out of a RPG with not many people in it.
Name:
Age:
Between 16-20
Description:
AT LEAST FIVE LINES. PM me if you want physical disfigurements and we’ll discuss it.
Personality:
AT LEAST FOUR LINES
History:
AT LEAST FIVE LINES. You’re character probably heard about the Disease from the News.
NO CHARACTERS WITH FAMILY AND/OR FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN STRUCK DOWN BY THE DISEASE ARE ALLOWED.
Crest:
You will have to choose a Crest. Crests affect the rate your powers return to you and HOW they return. Choose wisely as it WILL affect how the RPG goes.
Abilities:
As you grow and learn more about yourself and of the past, you will discover that you are able to perform things you thought you cannot do. For the moment, please list only one underdeveloped ability. You may NOT use Reality Wrapping and Time Travel. Keep it simple and easy for the moment. When there's a cafe thread, we can work on other abilities you can discover during the RPG.
Sample:
Please make a sample of your character getting to the Institute. You are either at the airport catching a plane and you’re late, on a packed train which is in a middle of a BIG delay or catching a taxi in a middle of a GIANT traffic jam.
Basic rules:
1) No God-Modding or 'invincible' players.
2) I have the right to expel or refuse anyone who does not meet my standards.
3) You have a right to know why I am expelling/refusing you.
4) I expect you to at least skim each person’s post so you know what is happening.
5) If you are going to swear excessively, post a warning at the top of your post please. I don’t mind swearing if it is appropriate for that situation, but no needless profanity please.
6) No extreme romance, i.e. No sex scenes. If you are thinking of developing a relationship between two characters, kissing is the maximum you can do.
7) No bunnying, i.e. controlling another RPGer’s character. You can only control another person’s character with their expressed permission VIA PM.
8) Try to post at least once every two days. I don't want this to die as soon as it starts.
9) HAVE FUN!
The rules could be edited later.
I am cracking down on grammar, length and depth in this RPG. I will not, I repeat, not accept anyone who I feel cannot uphold to my grammar and RPG’ing standards. I will also expect an RPG sample from any applicants, to prove you are capable of posting to my standards.
Be warned: when the RPG starts, I will not hesitate to expel any members of the Five who don’t post long replies. No five line additions to the RPG, that’s not a post. Plus, I expect some level of maturity in your posts, and a basic usage of proper, and possibly advanced, English.
Reservations: This RPG is aimed for MATURE people who have high RPG standards. I will only reserve spots for RPG moderators and those I can trust. Everyone else, do it the hard way.
1) Courage: Dream Breaker RESERVED
2) Love: crystal-zephyr ACCEPTED
3) Wisdom: masterwannabe ACCEPTED
4) Kindness/Kindness:
5) Faith: MerkelHog RESERVED
EDIT: About the colours, don't worry; I just thought of some colours associated with each Crest that's all. Kindness has two because I don't think some boys would be comfortable with Pink; it was just to give people more a choice really. Personally I like Green MUCH more than Pink; Pink is one of my least favourite colours but to others, it is their favourite.
