Now wait just a second! You can put down your torches and pitchforks, 'cause this club has been approved by PsiUmbreon!

Everyone likes to laugh. Don't deny it. As such, I felt compelled to give this a try. You can probably tell by the title that we'll be talking about comedy here. No matter what it is or how it's presented, pretty much anything is possible discussion material as long as it's funny. This includes the obvious stuff like movies, TV shows, and standup, but also things like websites or even anecdotes from your daily life, if appropriate. Think of it as a celebration of humor in general.

There will be "official" discussion topics similar to those in other clubs, and I'm thinking they'll mostly focus on the different genres of comedy (with a few games thrown in, perhaps,) but don't feel like you're confined to just those. If you have something else you'd like to contribute, like recommending something you find really funny to the rest of us, then go for it! Humor is supposed to lighten the mood, and I'd prefer this club to have as casual and laid-back an atmosphere as possible; you know, somewhere you can check in on if you're having a bad day.

So how do you join? Just make a post here answering the first topic and you're in!

Some ground rules. Read 'em or else:

1) All general forum rules still apply here, obviously.

2) Try not to stray too far off on a tangent. I'll be pretty lenient about this, as the subject of comedy spans so much possible material, and who am I to say where the limits are? Just try to use some common sense and don't post anything glaringly out of place. No one wants to hear you flipping out emo-style about how much you hate your parents or whatever.

3) Let's try to keep the content from getting too obscene, okay? I know that a lot of the best stuff is for the adults, but kids come to this site too, you know. All I'm asking is that you don't try to pull something like an in-depth quoting of "The Aristocrats." Also, be careful about things like race and sexual orientation. Poking a little fun is okay, but anything clearly meant to be offensive won't be tolerated. Sometimes this can be a thin line, but I trust you guys to use your best judgement here.

4) Don't go around picking fights or otherwise starting trouble. Again, it's common sense, really. Brazen hostility really kills the mood, you know?

If things start getting out of hand, I'll let you know either by posting in this thread or by PM (depending on how I see fit.) It will be your one warning. At this point you can either shape up or be kicked out of the club, and if you've been acting really douchely, I may invoke a mod to strike you blind with a ban or something. Really though, use your head and you should be fine.

First Topic: What types of comedy do you like most?

Remember, it can be anything that makes you laugh! As for me, I really like sketch comedy, and most of my favorite shows have belonged to this category. I'm also quite partial to random humor. As such, my favorite stuff happens to be where these two ideas intersect. I simply love off-the-wall sketch shows like Monty Python's Flying Circus and it's numerous offspring; the best of all being Mr. Show with Bob and David (perhaps you've heard me ranting about it elsewhere?)

Another thing I'm quite partial to is any time sophistication is added to lowbrow humor. Putting a clever spin on a subject normally considered taboo and reserved for gross-out humor will always draw appreciation from me. Oh, and I like parodies too. I think that's it for now...

And there you go! Not too hard, right? Of course, your reply doesn't have to be as long as this. If you're ready to join up and have some fun, then have at it! ;D

And here I was waiting for this club to die. <_<

Ew, Caco? I've gotta say I think Cack sounds better if you insist on shortening my name...

But enough of that! And yes, I am also a fan of laughing at stupidity. It certainly helps make everyday life more entertaining. :D

Welcome to the club Lemono, and since you mentioned the idea elsewhere, yeah, you are now co-owner! For whatever that means... *insta-salute, and first post updated*

May I join?

What types of comedy do you like most?
I like it when people act like complete batheads. Like running into walls of bread dough. And randomness makes me laugh too! Just think google plex. Lastly, I find insults pretty funny, as long as they don't direct it to anyone in particular. Lastly 2, word play, puns, misconceptions and the lot.

Who can say?
Can I join? Comedy is a huge passion of mine.

Favourite Comedy?
Lots of stuff-most of all I enjoy sketch based comedy and sitcoms.
At the moment I am really into Green Wing which is sorta a blend of the two.
I'm a huge fan of most 'British Comedy'-think Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Catherine Tate, The Two Ronnies,...and an awful lot more...

FlamingRuby

The magic of Pokemon
Count me in! I mainly like Slapstick comedy (as seen in Looney Tunes), but I'm also partial to Jeff Foxworthy's redneck jokes.

Ofcourse, you may all join. Although, we'll have to wait for Cacophony to get back for him to make his staple on the first post ..

Indeed, welcome everyone! I'll go get the first post updated.

It's nice to see a wide variety of tastes. Anyway, if a few more people join (enough to make the total ten? I dunno) I'll probably have to think up a new official discussion topic. If anyone else feels like bringing something up in the meantime, feel free to do so!

Anyone else here think Yo Mama jokes are so overrated?
Oh, most definately. Also, when people reply with, "ur mom", is another absurd, retarded way of going things .. 0o;;

"Yo mama" jokes are mean. But if used in the right situation, you should be able to avoid over-sized moms running after you like a herd of sweaty rhinos.

They're still used? I'm so out of it...

But yes, I suppose they are overrated. The idea is noble, in a way; using a humorous insult to counter and reverse a verbal attack, but the problem is that most (if not all) of them completely suck. And I think a clever, off-the-cuff remark works and sounds better than such a tired old joke structure that's clearly been beaten to death, assuming you can pull it off. (I usually can't, btw. :p) Anyway, you have the right idea. Just asking stuff like this is what the club's all about.

I'm also pleased to note that I am now a walking billboard, so maybe we'll be getting some more members. I even cleared out my old link to www.oddtodd.com for it. ;_;

Which brings me to a new topic...
What's a funny website you usually like to visit?

I already posted mine, the sheer awesomeness that is Odd Todd's site. The owner has been making a (very modest) living off this site ever since he was laid off during the dotcom business crash in 2001, and it's essentially a parody of his own unemployment along with other random stuff. Be sure to check out some of the better cartoons (the site's lifeblood) along with the weirdo polls, movie reviews, "Daily Fact I Learned from the TV" and so on. Todd's great at making even the most insignificant of events seem funny. He's a total champ. This is just my opinion, of course...

As posted already, FlamingRuby's first choice would most likely be Homestar Runner, another great site everyone should visit if they haven't already. If you have a site that isn't already common knowledge, feel free to post a link. Try to keep it relatively clean, though! ;D

To Jirachi_Reborn below: Yeah, you're in. I'll fix up the first post. Have fun!

The main reason why I think Homestar Runner is so popular is because of the Strong Bad E-mails (which I'm waiting for the next one to go live...)
