Yellow storage box issues

I'm playing through yellow for the first time just for fun, I bought it refurbished off of ebay. I'm having issues with the pokemon storage box, I've only tried box 1 as I'm afraid to switch to another box. Any pokemon I put in the box end up glitching out, the lose their name and when I go to select them the game crashes. Even after a fresh start.

Any suggestions?

Best suggestion is that your cartridge is either damaged or counterfeit and thus unplayable. Hopefully there is a method for getting your money back.

Probably not the answer you wanted but there's no real way of fixing such an issue.

Doubtful, I don't get much free time due to work so I think I'm past the return limit. I'll have to check the rest of the games as I got gens 1-3 in a bundle from the same seller.

Thanks for the response

Always be exceedingly wary of buying any games, especially the older ones, off eBay. The secondary market for any of the Game Boy family titles (and at this late date, any of the earlier DS titles as well) is rife with piracy, to the point where anything reasonably priced is perhaps just as if not more likely to be pirated merchandise, and user-supported marketplaces like eBay mean that your recourse is limited if/when you're sold counterfeit merchandise.

Word. It's getting harder to tell what's real and what's not these days too, since pirates and others are making more realistic fake games.
