Yoshi; so that Pikachu78 doesn't think that his F-Zero thread is successful as well.

All right, nearly anyone who has heard of Mario has heard of his "pet" dinosaur, Yoshi. Debuting in Super Mario World, not only has Yoshi appeared in numerous main Mario games and spin-offs, but it has also become popular enough to have its own "franchise" of sorts, with the Yoshi Island series and Yoshi's story, where the Yoshi species are the main characters.

However, the last installment of the core Yoshi series was in the form of Yoshi's Island DS, which was distributed over two years ago in the U.S and the UK. Do you think that another Yoshi game could be in the works, or will Yoshi be set as Mario's companion and only appear in his games? Would you want to see a sequel of sorts to Yoshi's Island DS, or the nostalgic Yoshi's Story? How long do you think it will take before another Yoshi game will be in development?

.....Lame topic, I know, but I figured I should get here first before Pikachu78 inevitably does it.

Yes, I do foresee another Yoshi sequel in the works for the future. There is a possibility for Yoshi to have his own game again. What it be about or when (and if) the game gets released is, however, an utter mystery to me.

Actually Yoshi first debuted on the NES in a puzzle game called Yoshi.

Anyways, I want another SMW2:YI sequel. That is all I have to add. Or something about stolen fruit/abandoned babies.

Yoshi is probally getting his new own game soon mainly because Mario hasn't invited Yoshi into his Main games (Galaxy/Sunshine) and we need a new one anyways. I'll prefer a DS version over a Wii one. Why? Its cheaper.

Incorrect, actually. Yoshi for NES was released over a year after Super Mario World for SNES. This was back when Nintendo didn't suddenly drop past console support when a new console was released.

I don't think anybody is going to dispute that Yoshi's Island was the pinnacle of Yoshi's resume. Yoshi's Island DS is one of my favorite DS games too, but I really don't think any other title that Yoshi has had his name plastered on the title of has been anywhere near spectacular. Yoshi's Cookie was fun but nowhere near the greatest puzzle title, Yoshi's Story was a horrific waste of potential, and Topsy Turvy and Touch & Go were - to put it simply - garbage. I suppose one could make a case for Tetris Attack being included in one of Yoshi's greats, but if Yoshi gets another game to himself, I'd rather not see it leech of the success of the original Yoshi's Island (like Touch & Go tried to) or resort to a broken and tedious gimmick.

You could ride Yoshi in Sunshine and he made a cameo appearance in Galaxy.

I think Yoshi should get a new game. If he got one for the Wii, the motion controls could be put to good use.

To be honest I really don't care how the sequel will work.
I happen to like both Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story so I'm fine either way, just as long as it isn't as short and easy as Yoshi's story.

What I would like is one on the Wii. Don't know how it will work out, but I Personally like the idea of having one for the Wii.

A new Yoshi Cookie game should be made. That game was awesome.

I'd go for this, as long as they it a 2.5 D game like Wario Land: Shake It!

However, if they were able to make a 3D Yoshi game that worked well enough too, then I'd be all for it as well.

Not really, no.
Ah, Yoshi's Island...good times, good times. *Remembers Endless World of Yoshis*...*passes out*

Oh, and does anyone remember Poochy Ain't Stupid? Well, that was a damn lie. :<

EDIT: A question. Why was Yoshi's Story so bad? I've never played it, so...yeah...

From what I remember...first, it was short. Like, very short. Only twenty-four levels--that's individual levels, not worlds--at the most, and for some reason you were only able to play through six each time through, with a boss at the end of the third and final levels. The levels themselves didn't ever really have a finite goal, either; the goal was to collect fruit, and once you got thirty, BAM! off to the next level (or boss), which may be different based on circumstances that I can't be bothered to remember. They weren't even all that long, and the game as a whole was very easy.

The gameplay on its own was actually quite good, very reminiscient of Yoshi's Island without the gigantic escort mission gimmick, and I personally remember enjoying the quirky storybook-esque thing the game had going. It's just it was very easy and exceedingly short--hence, I think, why S.Suikun referred to it as a "waste of potential." It was worth a rental at the very most, but certainly not worth any serious amount of money at all.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing another Yoshi game--something in 2.5-d, like Cobalt_Latios said.

I love you Sonic <3

I actually quie liked yoshi's island on the DS where you had the baby mario and other main characters from the mario series, i'd actually love to see a sequel to yoshi's island but not too much on the yoshi's story game.

I love how people are using their thread titles to make personal attacks against other threadmakers, reminds me of the good ol' days...

On topic: I've never been a huge fan of the Yoshi series as a whole, but the few games that I did play were enjoyable, to say the least. I liked Yoshi Story, for whatever that's worth, as well as Yoshi's Island, but I've never felt the need to go get any other Yoshi games.

Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story were good, I'd like to see a sequel to them, but I don't really like the Yoshi puzzle games much.

If anything regarding a Yoshi sequel, there should be one with the difficulty setting of Yoshi's Island DS. That game was TOUGH.

Short, easy, and shallow are just three really simple words to describe the problems with Yoshi's Story effectively, but other than falling far short of the standard set by Yoshi's Island (remember, until shortly before relase, it was known as "Yoshi's Island 64"), having the player eat 30 fruit in order to complete a stage was a poor method - and when it came to collecting 30 melons - incredibly tedious. The same goes for world progression and only getting to play one stage each time you played the story mode. The game actually had the mechanics and stage design of a successful platform title, but the objectives totally killed it. Boss fights also were underwhelming. And I wasn't a fan of the soundtrack, which not only recycled the same themes in each stage, but got really irritable (and I'm not just talking about the Yoshis singing).

Now, I liked Yoshi's Island DS a lot, and the main criticism I have against that game was that certain obstacles were purposeful "death points" where it was theoretically impossible not to die at one part before knowing what was ahead, making certain obstacles based on trial-and-error rather than skill and gut reaction. Though while people complained about the "dead zone" between screens, I never had an issue with it. The soundtrack was also mediocre, but it was overall a pretty respectable follow-up to the 1995 original, and quite frankly, I enjoyed it one hell of a lot more than new Super Mario Bros.

yes indeed the DS game was a little challenging, but it was more of a "Gimmick" hard.

and I wouldn't mind another Yoshi game for Maybe the Wiiware in a 2.5D style

I will be looking forward for a new Yoshi game in the near future. Hopefully it'll be a sequel to Yoshi's Story as that was the first Yoshi game I've played.
