No, I think he'll stay pokemon researcher, because he likes it more than just training pokemon, it's his new goal. And he can always catch new pokemon and have a battle once in a while.

He'll always be a travelling researcher, more like Birch than Oak. He'll always want strong pokemon and have friendly battles with other trainers. Dunno if he'll try and get badges though.

I didnt even know he was a researcher. But now that I do..no he wont go back when he lost against ash he lost all confidence in his battling skills and gave up....(I guess) thats just me (did he ever lose to ash?)
