The Ancient One
I like listening to most genres of music barring Rap and Country, and I am constantly looking for new music, be it through Pandora, forums, or Anthony Fantano's reviews as of late. I have a tendency to like softer rock more than most other genres, but then there are quite a few exceptions to that. I have a tendency to like albums that tell a story as well. I also buy music by the album, and not buy the Single, which has a tendency to alter my perceptions of artist talent.

My favorite albums probably include the following in no particular order.
"The Matter" by Faded Paper Figures (Tech-Soft Rock)
"The Afterman: Descension" by Coheed & Cambria (Progressive Rock)
"At War with the Mystics" by The Flaming Lips (Soft Rock/Psychedelic)
"So Sudden" by The Hush Sound (Indie Rock)
"Vices and Virtues" by Panic at the Disco (Pop Rock)
"Perceptions of Pacha" by Goldfish (Tech-Jazz)
"History Repeating: Blue" by The Megas (Video Game Rock, Mega Man)
"Act II: The Father of Death" by The Protomen (VG Rock, Mega Man)
"Of the Blue Color of the Sky" by OkGo (Experimental Rock)
"A Weekend in the City" by Bloc Party (Alternative Rock)
"Dinosaurchestra" by Lemon Demon (As Indie as Indie Gets)
"LIVING THINGS" by Linkin Park (Alternative Rock)

That's a lot more rock than I remember seeing before. Huh.

I've listened to mostly rock in the past but I'm currently getting into classical. I've listened to some more modern stuff like Steve Reich, Dmitri Shostakovich, but I'm progressing to the baroque era currently. Loving Bach and Vivaldi. Also, I'm slowly getting into jazz. I've also kind of liked jazz but never explored it. I'm starting with the mainstream stuff like Coltrane and Davis.

Anyway my favorite bands:

My Bloody Valentine (Loveless is my favorite album)
Stereolab (Very unique band)
Tortoise (I'm noticing the influence from Reich)
Can (Favorite classic rock band, also love Neu)
Autechre (Nice electronic music)

Conquistador de pan
Nearly anything from the hardcore scene. Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, etc. Also some lesser-known skatepunk bands like Agent Orange and The Adolescents.

Other than that, a few postpunk/noise rock bands like Butthole Surfers, R.E.M., and Celibate Rifles. There's a couple modern rock bands I can stomach, and I actually enjoy some of Cage The Elephant's stuff. I can't stand rap, pop, and country. Or really anything from the past 10 years or so, with a few exceptions.

In the most non-condescending way possible (and this is directed more at the initial few posts made back at this thread's genesis), you know when someone hasn't listened to enough music when they start giving "exhaustive" lists of all the music they like.
Anyway. Listen to this.

Then listen to...

After that, try...

Then, simply...

If you like even just one of them, we can talk more.

I'm currently enjoying some covers from Glee Season 4 and Megan Nicole. Sometimes I listen to Ed Sheeran's new album '+' as well.

anyone who's into indie/singer-songwriter music probably inspired by sufjan stevens and jonsi should check out mree. her music isn't really anything special but it's chill as **** and she's dropping a new album next month

was also inspiring to witness her going from ok youtube covers to decent original music with decent production
