So what's do you guys here think of these kinds of Anime? Are they nothing more that soft-core porn for Studios to make cash quick over or is there more to them?

Ecchi anime is fine, since it's up ot the imganation of the viewer. You can either watch it for the storyline or those scenes. Or both. Hentai however now that's what's just anime porn for moneyl.

Kiss x Sis leaves very little to the imagination.

I'm pretty sure everyone watches ecchi for PLOT, as there is no story to be found.

Well, that's your imagination. that's the whole point of imgination afterall. How vivid or creative someone's is varies. Also plot and storyline are the same thing dude.

Depends on the series. Panty and Stocking is an ecchi series no one watched for the PLOT. It was legit good. Then you have others, like Kissxsis and To Love-ru, which while mostly watched for fan service, they actually have some sort of a consistent story. They don't really try to hide what they are.

And then you shows like Freezing, which tries to hide what it really is.

(Wasn't there a thread about this previously?)

Depends on what you consider ecchi. Do anime with lots of sex jokes but not too much explicit fanservice count?

Tatami Galaxy didn't come off as an ecchi to me, so it probably just depends on the person.

I don't care much for ecchi these days. Yes, I've watched my share of ecchi. Yes, it has gotten annoying even when I know what it is. Yes, there are both good and bad ecchi. Off the top of my head, ecchi like Yusibu and Mysterious Girlfriend X are really good, while Eiken and Aki-Sora are crap (Eiken was worse even though the incest was the biggest ick factor). Then there were disappointments like Elfen Lied (personally) and Futari Ecchi, the latter which I'm kinda not surprised wasn't that good because it was only four episodes of a 40+ currently-publishing manga that mainly shows the growing relationship between a married couple. (Meanwhile, why isn't Love Lucky getting an anime adaptation? That's a good ecchi story right there.)

I am aware of the market for these shows, so they're going to keep getting made like hentai and thus further be the reason why a lot of our parents look down on anime. (Really, I think a lot of 80s/90s OVA anime were in this category if not out-right hentai. We've all heard the horror stories of parents buying/renting an anime thinking it was a children's cartoon only to return to the store complaining they were given porn.) According to my statistics, I've seen 19 ecchi titles out of all the anime I've seen thus far. I'm not sure if that's even one percent. So I obviously tend to stay away from ecchi titles, unless I know for a fact there is a story to be had. Even though a number of the ecchi I did watch do have a poor or "meh" story, I only watched them because I've heard some people bash them and I wanted to know why, and I happened to feel like hating myself that day. The "meh" ones were more-or-less because I was bored and wanted to watch something only to find myself being bored by it.

So yeah. Depending on the show, they can be basically softcore porn without plot, or softcore porn with plot. And considering ecchi titles like any other anime title are optional, you can watch it or not, and no one will berate nor judge you. They shouldn't, anyway.

It really is dependent on the rest of the anime past the ecchi part. Kill la Kill is very much ecchi, but it has good characters and plot beyond that, and I love it. Something like Girl's Bravo makes the sex appeal a big part of it and isn't actually likable (My opinion, of course. I'm sure it has some fans.). Saying Ecchi is like saying any other genre or subgenre. I like Trigun, doesn't mean I like very sci-fi western. This question is kind of limited in view, but interesting. Overall, I don't like ecchi but only because it makes it a bit awkward if anyone sees me watching it and not because I feel it automatically destroys or degrades a show.

Honestly, if I really was in the mood to watch soft-core pornographic material, I rather see the real thing and not a cartoon...

Highschool of the Dead was ecchi, and the ecchi-ness was just too ridiculous and distracting. The Matrix style breast dodges had me shaking my head lol.

(Didn't we already have this thread?)

When it comes to ecchi stuff usually I laugh it off. The only thing it concerns me with is when recommending good anime to people who don't usually watch anime. For example: Gargantia is an excellent short sci-fi series, but watching it might get a bit awkward during the episode where you've got 15 year-old girls belly dancing. Gurren Lagann is my favourite, but not everyone likes Yoko's choice of clothing.

Other than that, I don't care that much. One of the things I love about anime is how little Japan seems to give a ****. Sexism and whether or not things are offensive have become outrageous hot button issues. The line between what you can and can't say because someone's mother might go nuts is getting smaller and smaller. The internet has become incredibly sensitive to what you can and can't enjoy because someone somewhere might be offended by it. Meanwhile anime is just getting more and more over the top with it's raunchiness. I love it.

As to whether or not it's worth watching? I think DemoD+ addressed that pretty well in his last video about To Love-Ru. Not gonna be that guy and link it, but look it up if you're interested.

ecchi anime is fine as long it doesn't go to the flow of a porn.

question: when did we have a thread like this, if it's years ago then i don't know about since i register this account just last year.

Ecchi needs more DFC girls, I can't help but feel D-Frag! would be so much better if they just went full blown ecchi with their main girls.

Dumb fact: There's some gang around where I live called DFC. They write it all over the place and I just snicker.
