Your views on ASL?

Hello ,

Yes, I've decided to focus a little bit on the Miscellaneous Discussion .

Anyway, what are your views on ASL?

For those that don't know the term it's;

Age,

Sex,

Location.

Because I've had somebody asking this before (Not on Pokemon, obviously, but on online games) and I'm wondering what YOUR view is on this.

Personally? I'm not sure, it does go against the Personal Details situation, but really it seems it doesn't matter too much on Serebii.Net Forums, what with all the lovely people on here to help you .

I don't mind being asked that, but only if I sort of know the person. It's weird when they ask you and it's the first thing they've said. Although I'm not normally asked that on-line anyway.

I get bothered if it's the first thing a person asks me, but if I get to know them, I'm cool with it. It's really overused but eh.

I haven't heard that term in a while, then again I kinda stopped using chat rooms like 8 years ago.
It's a bit rubbish really, it's not something I think I've ever really said to someone, just seems very impersonal. 90% of people who ask this will probably stop talking to you if your response is "30+/M/*".
I would rather just be talking to someone and throw those things in as questions that we can talk about... Maybe not "Oh, you're a guy, how's that working out for you?", but the location and age could be topics of conversation a little bit.

It's usually only used by people looking for 'cyber' on chats like omegle or 'adult' sites. It helps you know if the person you talking to is to your liking. Of course, short of live video chat, there's no real way to know if they're just lying to get you to play along.

Its not that bothersome for me to do. I actually ask this to everyone I talk too. I don't say "ASL" but I do like to know the gender, their age, and location ever. They are nice things to know when talking to someone

To complete and random strangers on omegle? I don't know as I don't use it.

I thought you were talking about American Sign Language when I first read the title...
I can tell people my gender and approximate location, like a state or region. The only place I have heard this term is on omegle or chatroulette though.

Back when I was a kid, I used to make something up since I was under 18 for a gaming site, like my personal favorite - 26/M/FL. After a couple of years I would create my own.

I am neutral on the subject of ASL- it doesn't affect me in any way, positive or negative. DSL on the other hand...
