Yu-Gi-Oh! The Series Discussion Thread

MR6 will not introduce a new summoning method, instead it allows for Synchro, Fusion and Xyz monsters to be summoned to the main monster zones. Pendulums still need Links, however.

https://ygorganization.com/the-next-yu-gi-oh-anime/
The new anime is called Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS! It focuses on a 11 year old protagonist called Oudou Yuga. Shin Yoshida is NOT the main writer (Hallelujah).

https://ygorganization.com/rush-duel-information/
The new dueling method is called Rush Duel. Similar to Speed Duels, but they require specialized cards. Main-line products and Rush Duel products will be separate from each other.

Edit: https://ygorganization.com/gottayeetoretueeeee/
More info about the characters including the new female non-duelist character.
I suppose that's to prevent the absolute ridiculousness that was Pendulums before Links limited them.

Good thing Rush Duels are separate, because those would destroy the game if implemented as a regular Dueling method.

Rush Dueling is "somewhat" balanced since you have only three zones (or so it seems), and for the time being only vanilla Normal Monsters and Effect Monsters, but the only reason they exist as a separate thing from Speed Duels seem to be to have Vanguard-esque card artworks for older monsters, since the new animation studio, Bridge, is the one that animated Cardfight!! Vanguard G: Z and apparently the subsequent series including the current reboot*.

*Previous series were done by OLM, yes, as in OLM of Pocket Monsters.

This is great! The change of rules make Fusion, Synchro and Xyz monsters less restricted while still keeping Pendulum's from the Extra Deck at bay and Link's carry on their usual business.

Also how Yu-Gi-Oh! products are going to work with this new era is similar to how we have standard format sets and Speed Duel sets in TCG. As for my thoughts on the new series, the name SEVENS (sarcastic claps) very creative name there guys, having pre-teen protagonists is refreshing, Rush Duels to me seem like childish Speed Duels and I don't mean that in a bad way, also is the animation style different or is it just me?

But yeah really exciting times. New series, new product lines (like the new card layouts by the way), and fixed rules.

Animation style is 100% different. Feels more like other anime than YuGiOh.

I like the change of the TCG rules because the old rules slowed things down to a crawl and totally rendered my old D/D/D deck practically useless.

But I hate the new series and everything about it. The characters look like they're straight out of CFV and the animation looks generic as hell. The fact that the new anime will have its own special cards separate from the current TCG is annoying too. The new layout and updated rules for Rush Duels make it feel like a complete different game and I won't bother buying those cards when they get printed in real life.

I'm just glad I can use Delta Accel Synchro again. By that I mean use Cosmic Blazar and (although not a Delta Accel but is similar to one) Shooting Quasar Dragons. It was just so hard to use with the VRAINS era rules. That also means no more Junk Connector for my cherished Yusei deck.

Yeah alot of old decks that got snubbed in the past 3 years will get a comeback now which is great.

Still slightly pissed off about everything else though. I know that us getting Duel Monsters Super was never really likely but damn, I wish I had been right for once...

That sure was a generic animation and art style alright. New exclusive cards to me means an entirely new game. I like that they finally released the normal summoning limitation while balancing the board with only 3 monsters and also allowing your hand to be full every new turn. It's a shame it requires the specific cards (which means nothing between friends, hell, it's gonna be a blast). I like what they did with the game itself but in terms of the anime, i'm quite disappointed. Even zexal, which had a younger cast, with their traditional art style, made the characters look really cool, as the yugioh anime tends to make them. Arc-V was probably their weakest in terms of keeping their sharp line-work but it was still there. And besides the card game itself (duh), this was one of the features i appreciated more in the anime. They may not move a lot but damn don't they look cool. Will still watch it (zexal turned out way cooler than i expected) but i'll expect nothing at all from it.

Shouldn't there be a new thread since we know the name of the next series now?

I actually love the fact that you can fill your hand each turn with the new rules in the upcoming series but I wish it was a rule in the regular version of the trading card game too.

A well-built engine can draw through your entire deck in one turn, so you don't really need it in regular Yu-Gi-Oh! unless you're running some gimmicky thing.

^Their fusions (Armityle and Trilojig from Arc-v manga) are now a proper archetype too, meaning we will get more support in the future.

https://ygorganization.com/series11plus1/
First print of the Rise of the Duelist will have a bonus pack. Judging by the previous additional packs, this will likely be reprints with rarity bumps and/or alternate art.

Edit:
https://ygorganization.com/sevens-rush-duel-number-of-monster-zones/
V JUMP confirms that Rush Duels will indeed use 3 Monster Zones like Speed Duels.

Since Yuga's Duel Disk can change forms, this suggests Master Duels may be a thing too. We will have to see until the first Rise of the Duelist cards are confirmed.

Edit 2:

Jim Crocodile Cook's Fossils won the 2020 Collection Pack Poll. This means Jim will be the representative for GX era this year.

The other decks in the poll that lost will not be printed in 2020 Collection Pack, but they will obviously be printed at a later date.

My favorite part of modern YuGiOh is them printing pretty much every character's archetypes, even characters from anime that ended over a decade ago.

The new Duelist Pack will be called Duelists of Gloom and will focus on three DARK Atrribute duelists from animé and the manga. Since Duelist Packs give 45 cards in total, this means each character will get 15 slots, likely 8 new cards and 7 reprints, as opposed to 5 new cards/4 reprints structure in Legendary Duelists.

This means that even though Legendary Duelists packs have ended, we will continue to have Duelist Packs focusing on legacy Decks.

The pack will be released in May 16th 2020 in Japan, a month before how Duelist Packs been releasing in ARC-V/VRAINS eras. Since May's pack was Collection Packs in the VRAINS era, this means they are moved to June instead, much like how Starter Decks are now moved to April for Rush Duels.

Well Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS probably won't come out until 2021 internationally so I wasn't really expecting the Rush Duel to come out yet. I mean the target audience for the line will be those who watch the show. So no show, no merch.

https://ygorganization.com/ocg-collection-pack-2020-announced/

And it is confirmed, Collection Pack 2020 will be released in June 6th in the OCG.

Edit (12.02.2020):
https://ygorganization.com/longisthewayandhardthatoutofhellleadsuptolight/
New Sacred Beast support is confirmed, and they are based on Signature Attacks of the beasts from the animé.
https://ygorganization.com/andifgaiaisntaroundeveryoneshouldbeaskingwheresgaia/
First batch of RotD cards is also revealed (focusing on Gaia The Fierce Knight), confirming that SEVENS main sets will NOT have cards of the SEVENS animé, but rather legacy archetypes.

The respective wikis should now list Rush Duel products as completely irrelevant to the OCG, but they probably won't.
