"Now on Deck, Candidate Number 1! Please come up to the front desk to recieve information on who your opponent will be and which arena you'll be dueling in!" An anouncer yelled out over a PA System.
The scene was a very large building with four Dueling Arenas in the center. The arenas were surrounded by seats in which hundreds of teenagers sat waiting to be called up. One of them, a boy of about fifteen years of age, stood up. Several people looked at him as he walked down the stage. His red jacket blew ever-so-slightly in the light breeze from the air-conditioners in the building. He had a calm, kind look on his face and his eyes looked gave him a calm and collected look. He took a Dueling Deck out of his jacket's pocket and slid it into his Duel Disk. As soon as he walked up to the front desk and was told where and who he'd be dueling, his facial expression and entire outlook changed completely. His once kind and gentle face became serious and determined, and his eyes became locked in a solid glare.
"Right. So I'll be dueling Professor Kaji in Arena 1." The boy said calmly.
Sitting next to the man who gave the boy his assigned arena was a man wearing a very long black jacket which came down to his ankles, which connected at his waste and from there up appeared to be a normal shirt, though it had an odd golden eye symbol on the front. And although it was impossible to see, he was wearing a black pair of pants underneath the jacket. His hair was silver and came down to his shoulders, while his eyes were a dark jade color. As soon as he looked over to see the boy standing in front of the desk, his eyes widened for a brief moment. Underneath the desk where nobody could see, he clenched his fist.
<That's the one...The one my master told me to take out. Erg, but I can't challenge him to a Shadow Duel here. But I can't allow him to get into this school...Unfortunately, I'm not the one who makes that decision around here. So I have to beat him and prevent him from entering the Academy. > He thought. "Stop." He said coolly as soon as the boy turned around to walk to his arena. "You know, I see much...potential in you, kid. So, to see if it's real, I'll be your opponent. The name's Professor Toukai."
The man stood up in his seat, causing several returning students or students coming from the Academy's linked Middle School to look on in surprise. They knew Professor Toukai never tested the new students, because he was much to harsh and didn't ever seem to hold back anything. The Principle knew that if he were allowed to test the new comers, he'd use his real deck and barely anybody would make it in. However, the man opposite him sitting at the desk didn't know that and thusly didn't object.
"We'll still be dueling in Arena 1. But I must warn you, I'm much tougher than Professor Kaji. Are you up for the challenge?" Prof. Toukai asked.
"Yeah, sure. If I can't take on this school's best, then I don't deserve to be in this school at all." The boy said calmly.
"Heh, that's the Duel Academy Spirit, kid. I'll meet you at Arena 1." Prof. Toukai said, taking a Duel Disk from his jacket and sliding his deck in.
The boy turned again and started walking toward his arena, then stopped.
"By the way. The name's Evan. Evan Kaen." He said, his tone starting to sound suspicious, then he kept walking.
Prof. Toukai stood there for a moment, glaring coldly. He, too, then started walking toward Arena 1 where he was sure to deny the boy access to Duel Academy. But then, nothing is set in stone...
"Candidate Number 2, please report to the Front Desk to recieve information on your opponent and Arena!" The man called out over the PA System once more, somewhat shocked at what had just happened...
