Ok I sent over a Haunter and a butterfry from fire red to pokemon xd to pokemon emerald and then I tried to bread them as I still needed there pre-evolved forms but when I went to bread them they HATE every pokemon I got. I tried everything matching exact types, then I tried looks, hell even ditto couldn't get a egg from these guys! Whats up with that? Anyone got the reason why?

Eheh...Haunter and Butterfree are in different breeding groups. Walk around longer. See what the old dude says - if he says 'The two prefer to play with other POKEMON than each other' you have a problem. Maybe they're the same gender ??? Try with Ditto.

I did use ditto to begin with I never tried Gengar and Butterfry together well I did as a last resort. Every pokemon the old dude says something like this "The two really don't get along" Its not even like they play with other pokemon its more like they hate each other lol. Its very odd. You would think ditto would work.

Correct, even if they hate each other they would still breed, only if they ignore each other: "The two prefer to play with different Pokemon than each other" then they won't. It just takes longer to get an egg and to hatch it.

So its just going to take a LONG time to get a egg is what your saying? k I will spin around in circles a million times I guess lol.

no, go back and forth, going out of sight of the old guy and then back in. At the lowest thing he says, there's a 25% you'll get an egg every time you go by him.

Percentage? What are you talking about?

There is 100% chance of getting an Egg as long as the old man doesn't say "They prefer to play with other Pokemon". It will just take longer.

Your game is proboley screwed up, my advice is try try again, walk around some to see if they breed.
The game is not 'screwed' as you say, it is programmed in to do that. It just makes the game interesting.

BTW, there is the Game Mechanic's on Breeding, as well as the Official Breeding thread in the FAQ's of this section. Use them for reference and in the future to keep the forums clean.

When you breed a ditto with anything but pokemon with no gender or Lati@s' you will get an egg. There is NO exception. Be patient and you will get an egg.

P. S. You can trade a Gastley and Caterpie over from FR too...You don't have to breed.

There is a percentage involved, and it's not 100%.

When you place two pokémon in the daycare, and they can mate, a number is created. The number depends on how much the two pokémon like eachother (The more they like eachother, the higher the number), but it's always between 100 or 200 (I might not get these numbers straight, it's been a long time since I read this). Now, after a certain amount of steps, another random number is created. Now, to get an egg, the 2nd random number should be UNDER the first random number. So, let's say the "love"-value is 180 (pretty high), and a random number is generated (150) the pokémon will get an egg. But, if the two pokémon didn't like eachother as much, and the love-value would be 120, they wouldn't get an egg. So the chance (as a percentage) can be calculated knowing this.

I think the place I read it is down now, so I can't confirm it, but it was somewhat like this.

@Theneedleman: Hehe, you forgot one.. it can't breed another ditto :p

If I know my math, and I do, both 150 and 120 are below 180, therefore resulting in an egg.

May I ask as to where you have obtained this information?
