Doing something wrong???

Ok, so yesterday for the first time ever, I bought a GBA link cable so that I can trade pokemon from my FireRed game to my Sapphire game. I've completed the Sevii Island quest thing and got the Ruby and Sapphire back to One Island. And I've beaten the Elite 4 in my Sapphire game. Then when I tried to link up my games and trade pokemon, I couldn't. I plugged the cable into both my gameboys, and I went upstairs to the direct corner in FR and to the trade center in S. but then after I save the game, it doesn't do anything. It says, communicating or something and press B to cancel, and it doesn't go anywhere from there. What I want to know is am I doing something wrong? Is there some quest I have to complete in my Sapphire game to allow trading between that and FR? someone please help! I don't know if it's the cable or what, but it's just not working.

you might just have to wait when it tells you to hit b.
keep waiting

I've left it going on that screen for a half hour at a time. Im pretty sure it doesn't take that long.

Your setup is correct and you've accomplished everything you need in order to trade. It's most likely a problem with the cable or possibly the link port of one of the GBAs. Here are some troubleshooting tips:

1) Switch the cable around so the purple plug (if you are using the official cable) is plugged into the other GBA than before.
2) Hold the plugs firmly in place in both GBAs as the connection is being established (I had to do this to link my old GBA SP to my GameCube).
3) Dip a cue-tip in isopropol rubbing alcohol and clean the link ports of both GBAs with it. Let them dry for about 10 minutes then connect them and try again.

If that doesn't work, take both of your GBAs and games and the cable and go to the store where you got the link cable and tell them you are having troubles linking. Ask if they will let you try a different cable and exchange if the new one works.

Check both screens to see if it tells you to do anything further and make sure you have met all the requirements to trade from FR/LG to sapphire. National dex EXT.

Thanks man, I think I'll try that. I sometimes have to hold my N64 games into the system when I play them so I'm familiar with that.
