Mega Evolution - Speculation/Discussion Thread

Sceptile Leaf Blade

Nighttime Guardian
That's annoying because Legends Z-A blocks you from boxing mega evolutions. So how do you get the mega evolution to Pokémon Home then? I still haven't figured out how to transfer the mega evolution dex from Legends Z-A to Home. With Bank it was automatic when you connected the game, but I can't find it anywhere in Home. Or is an update coming to Legends Z-A to allow us to box mega evolutions?

Edit: Maybe it just needs time, it doesn't seem to register Pokémon I move to Home either so maybe they need to stay in Home for longer and it only syncs when the Pokémon generates Home points? Idk it's confusing.

(You just said something so weird.)
If it helps with anything, the dex entry for Z-A Mega Evolutions gets automatically filled out without sending a Mega Stone to it. I sent a Hawlucha there, but after that, I noticed MLZ's entry was entered as well.

Yeah, as far as I can tell the only thing that isn't automatically unlocked in the HOME main Pokédex, assuming you already have the base Pokémon registered from elsewhere, is Eternal Flower Floette which needs to be transferred to unlock.
Obviously each Pokémon need to be transferred if you want their entires in the game-specific Pokédexes, but aren't needed to simply make their flavor text from ZA or the Megas themselves appear in the regular one.
They really messed up Mega Tatsugiri's size in the Height comparison feature, but these being poorly done is nothing new, I think they have adjusted Roaring Moon three or four times now.

Aside from the ones I had alrrady mentioned in previous posts, these are the abilities confirmed in Champions for the new Mega:

Clefable - Magic Bounce
Victreebel - Innards Out
Starmie - Huge Power
Skarmory - Stalwart
Chimecho - Levitate
Chandelure- Infiltrator
Golurk - Unseen Fist (you read it right)
Floette - Fairy Aura
Meowstic - Trace
Hawlucha - No Guard
Crabominable - Iron Fist
Drampa - Berserk
Glimmora - Adaptability

The ones missing (a LOT of them) are not available in Champions yet.

Some of these are pretty bad. Berserk for Mega Drampa? How is this supposed to work when it has no regeneration move and Mega removes the item slot (so no leftovers)?
(EDIT: ok, it can learn roost now)

Unseen Fist was nerfed and it only causes 1/4 damage against protected targets (similar to M!Excadrill new ability), but I guess this is not really relevant to Z-A

Mega Greninja just keeps Protean.

Makes me wonder if it's just more strategic to make it use Terastalization instead of Mega Evolving.

Generally somewhat disappointing but not massively surprising. The ones that look most interesting to me are No Guard Hawlucha could be decent (especially with stone edge), Crabominable keeping Iron fist is good now it has got Mach punch (just a shame Crambhammer isn't a punching move), Glimmora with adaptability makes sense if its to go more offensively, Starmie with huge power was expected but could be fun, Victreebel's is thematic but not that great , Golurk getting it and then nerfing the ability is a bit random but is probably sensible to nerf Urshifu a bit, Floette with Fairy aura does suit its lore and certainly an upgrade on its base forms abilities (honestly I'd make it the eternal flower floette's base form's ability as well) and Clefable goes from magic guard to magic bounce....I guess that's ok (but they probably could have kept magic guard)

I would say no because Terastalization would lock your Greninja into a single type where with Mega Evolution you can still change Greninja’s type by having swap out so that it can use protean again.

Also I’m not sure but I wouldn’t be that surprised if Mega Evolving would allow Greninja to use protean 1 more time before it would need to switch to start changing its type again.

I could see Greninja running Flip Turn or Uturn to switch out.

I think they were picking abilities based more on the Pokémon’s designs & Dex entries rather than for competitive viability
