Problems with my computer

Problems with my computer account

Earlier my Internet wasn't working, I turned the computer off at the wall (Not the brightest thing to do) and now my account has gone back to the way it was when I first got this computer. My files can still be seen and opened via My Computer but my actual account is just like a new account except any changes I make when I save will be removed when I log out or turn off the computer. I was hoping someone could help me restore my account to what it was.

This can happen if you haven't properly logged off your PC and you've just created a new account. So give or take, if you haven't logged off, Windows doesn't save your settings, nor does it remember any of it. So you have to reset the settings you did yourself. Now if you have logged off once in a while, a System Restore may bring it back up to speed, but it's not a guarantee.
I haven't created a new account, in fact this is the only account on this computer. Could you please define what you mean by reseting my settings, and where might I find the system restore?

when you buy a new computer you also get a software that says about recovery on it it could be a cd or floppy disk and this resets it, you may have a virus.

Before you restore it you want to back up and files on cd ect. But fisrt run a full scan with an anti-virus software.

I've had this computer for a year now and the problem isn't a virus, I know the cause already, its because I turned the computer off at the wall 3 times in a row. What I need is a way to return it to the way it was so that I don't lose any files. Apparently there is a way of sending your computer back in time, could someone tell me how to do that?

That's not what I meant.

Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

Assuming this hasn't been a week old problem, you should be able to get your settings back. System Restore however will delete/reinstall any PROGRAMS you've installing or uninstalling between now and then. It will not delete any pictures, text files, or MP3's you've added between now and then (though they may be moved to their previous place).

Otherwise like I said, you'll just have to reset everything on your own.
This problem started today. Also it seems my System Restore won't let me change the time to go to.

Then you have to reset your settings manually.
So how do I do that?

But I honestly think putting the settings back the way you want will take much less time than figuring this out.
Thats what I want to do but I don't know how.
