I don't know!
You just need to press anything on the control pad to change the colour, and you can combo with B for more choices. It has nothing to do with hacking, and it can be done on any system that plays the game, including GBASP
EDIT: In fact, in even says the list of the buttons and that you can do this in the GBA instruction booklet.

When the game starts loading and it says GAME BOY, you have to press a combination of buttons. There are 12 different combos.

I cant remember the colours for these except for B+> being inverse, which inverts the colours, so everything that is white is black, yellow turns purple, orange turns blue, red turns, green, pink turns dark green, black turns white, etc.

These all give you different colour coding for the games. HOWEVER, this only works on the Gameboy Advance (SP) when playing Gameboy Pocket games (GRBY were gameboy pocket games, but GSC werent).

You can only do it if your game is a hack by pressing Start, A, Up, and then B. But that doesn't work for real games.

No, it doesn't work on the GBA SP.

It does work on the GBA SP.

No, it doesn't work on the GBA SP.
And it works on real games as well, ex. Super Mario Land.
