EV's does not work for me no matter what i do, i done all sorts of tests. I bred pokemon so i can start my bulbasaur from scratch. I trained it from level 5 to about level 40 and i looked at all it stats when it reached level 40, wrote it down. Then i switched of my SP without saving it and done the same but this time with it holding the Macho Brace and battling different pokemon. Got from level 5 to level 40 again, wrote down the stats. NO CHANGE! STATS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME. No matter what i do, i can't EV train my pokemon, please help. Its not just bulbasaur, i tried with another bulbasaur and my larvitar. If anyone could recommend a good place to train i would appreciate it. I will also take suggestions from the nature of my bulbasaur and larvitar, i can easily make new ones.

EV's take effect gradually. You won't see all the results at level 40, but you will see them at level 100. I don't know much about places to train or nature, but maybe someone else does.

Hey there, calm down. EVs really work. You said you conducted tests, and you had a bulbasaur, and you saved at getting the bulbasaur right?
Ok now I get a little confused. You trained on what pokemon to get bulbasaur level40? And what pokemon on the second test? You have to tell us what pokemon you battled. Your test doesnt sound convincing, since we dont even know what you trained on.
EVs work, you can see the difference. Why dont you get a bulbasaur and train it on 50 of different pokemon to lvl40. Restart and this time just put it in the daycare. You will notice that the trained pokemon get better stats a little. Those extra points are EVs clocked in.
If you want advice on what to train on, go to the main site and go the game mechanics for help.

Yeah, you're not really getting the concept.

Both times, you're battilng your Bulbasaur against random Pokemon. With the Macho Brace, you're just gaining EVs FASTER, but your Bulbasaur's stats will be about the same both times.

EV-training is about battling ONLY Pokemon that give EVs in the stats you want to raise. All Pokemon give EVs, whether you're holding the Macho Brace or not.

So where could i train my bulbsaur to max out its Defense? By the way i forgot to mention that the baubsaurs i get, i breed them from my sapphire version and trade them onto leaf green so it can get boosted EXP. points, maybe thats why but i dunno.

from the sounds of it your a: leveliin the bulbasaur up on its own, which would mean that by level 40, youd probably almost maxed evs anyway, givin similar results, or b: used exp share or switched out meanin that ud not got too many evs either way it does work, check the sites ev section will give you ideas what to battle for defence evs

If you're EV training, this page would be the guide you are looking for. Also, if you train without a Macho Brace, it's harder to gain EVs as quickly.

On one last note, EVs affect stats at lv. 100. For every four EVs you put into a stat, an extra point in the stat in incurred. You can put up to 255 in a stat, but 252 is the closest number divisible by four.

252/4 = 63 points gained in that stat.

Here I have a question about EV, can my pokémons stat rise after it is level 100, I mean by battling wild pokémons?

No, it can not raise after getting to level 100 in 3rd gen. You could in RBYGSC, but it has been taken out.

I wish i knew about EV'S long time ago, so i could of EV trained my latios, kyogre and groudon. But too late there all at like level 80, i could still EV train them abit, but it wont do much compared to if i started when i first got them. Oh yeah and another thing, when you EV train, the site says you only need to beat the pokemon once to get the EV but its wrong. I had to battle about 4 geodudes to get an extra one point in the defense stat. It works alot better if you battle pokemon that give you little experience. The more pokemon you battle before the next level, the better the stats.

EVs do not equal instant stats.

You will gain the EVs by battling the Pokemon, every time. However, 4 EVs = 1 stat. So when you battle 1 Geodude you WILL get the EV, but you won't see any kind of stat gain. It's only when you battle a bunch of them that you start to see increases in stats.

I just started EV training and have been quite confused about a few things. It leaves me with a few questions.

1: I was under the assumption that stat gains would be immediate during level up. Meaning if I beat 40 pidgeys (1 speed EV) I would gain 10 points in speed. I am finding this to be incorrect. So does that mean when you say gradually that it will gain a point here and there when I level up?

2: On the site it says that the max is 510 for EV points and per stat its 255. This is for a maximum of 64 points total and 32 points per stat. This leaves me confused since if you gain 255 EV's wouldnt that be 63 points for a stat gain?

3: I have been EV training my abra on pidgeys and ratattas (1 ev speed) and from my count have gained about 64 EV points. I was testing just to see so I used some carbos to increase my speed. I was only able to use 4. It says on the site I can use 10 if I am not full for that stat. Am I missing somthing there?

Thank you for any imput on this.

I hope you like algebra. If not, you'll have to take my word that the formulas there tells you how much your Pokemon's stats will rise when you level it up.

2. It is true that 63 is the largest gain you can get to one stat from Effort Points. And that 127 points is the limit across stats. These one-off errors show up in guides because people are used to starting counts at 1 rather than 0.

3. You can use Energy Items as long as the EV of the stat is less than 100. If the EV for Speed is 99, you can use one Carbos. If the EV is 64, you can use four Carbos. If the EV is between 0 and 9, then you can use ten Carbos.

that's not 100% incorrect, you see, if you train a pokemon freshly caught above lvl 50 and start EV training it, it will gain lots of stat if you battle 40 pidgey. I remember my Marshtomp, it gained 17 HP while ev training (macho brace + PKRS) and it was level 19 so it isn't exactly like that. The EVs are not really apparent until around level 20~ish, so I have no idea what you did wrong. When you say EV train you train in a specific stat.
