Explosion

I have a question about the move explosion. I know its a normal type attack but due to its violent nature does the attack value of the Pokemon using it affect the damage it deals? I am guessing it does but it is somthing I'm not really sure about.

Yes, a Pokémon's Attack stat will determine the amount of damage that a Pokémon will do when it uses Explosion. Explosion, being a normal-type attack, uses Attack and Defense to factor damage. Also, even though Explosion is displayed as having 250 base power, it actually has 500 base power, because when a Pokémon is hit by SelfDestruct or Explosion, it's defense stat is cut in half.

Do you mean like Stab? (cos no normal type pokemon can learn it, meaning no stab)
Or do you mean stat wise. Like the higher the attack stat, the more damage delt?
Cos I suppose so. Like if a level 5 baltoy (just an example) used it, it wouldn't do too much damage to a Blissey (another example) While if a Claydol that had been trained in attack with an adamant nature used it say, it would do much more.

I always thought it halved your attack, but quartered your opponent's defense... although it comes to the same thing.

Actually, if you were to drop your opponent's Def stat down to the minimum (-6) by using say... 3 Screech attacks, Explosion would do no more damage than it would if it had no additional effect at all, since it lowers your opponent's level of the stat by 2, meaning a +6 Def Vaporeon would have +4 after the attack (assuming it would survive, which it probably would, depending on what Atk modifiers your foe has in place). The effect of lowering a stat by 2 is the same as halving it, but when stat ups are already it play, it DOES NOT halve your opponent's Def.

Explosion/self destruct are normal type moves with 250/200 base power, and they do get STAB. When you use explosion/self destruct, it lowers the defence of all pokemon hit by it by 2 levels (like screech), attacks with a base attack of 250/200 and faints the pokemon using it - in that order.

Is any part of that incorrect?

Yes, everything looks good to me. The only thing that is new to me is the part about SD/Explosion lowering defense by 2 stages, and not just actually halving it. Before that post, I had always thought that SD/Explosion just halved defense. But, it makes more sense that it would lower defense by 2 stages instead of just halving it.
